Says Boston is too racist and he would never here.
Fine.. we don't need juiced up cheaters.
How can anyone compare him to Ted Williams.

At least I think I have his rookie card.
wow...that interview sure made him look like an asshole.
Shoot the J!
hehehe, that juiced prick just missed a long fly ball from Millar that ended up just barely clearing the wall for a home run puttin the sox on top 9-7![]()

that is because he is an asshole. He always has been, even his teamates hate him. And if you listen to his comments about past ballplayers you can kinda get the opinion that he is a racist too.Originally posted by Cheese

I love how he says that Boston is a racist town even though he has NEVER been here.
Asshole is too nice a word for this guy!!!!

Umm... I got called a (omg the N word!!!) like 4 days ago. In Beacon Hill. There are very racist people here. But you guys are white, so you wouldn't really know about that...
Yup.
Of course there is some truth to it. He's not the only one to make such comments about Boston and the Red Sox.Read the rest of that article here. The organization wasn’t any more welcoming to the black players who followed. The experience of Reggie Smith in the ‘60s was typical, according to Bryant.
“You get a guy like Reggie Smith who comes in from California, he’s not used to the rigid segregation patterns in Boston. And he actually enjoyed playing for the Red Sox. Reggie’s problem was the city.”
Edit: for the record, I'm not saying the entire city of Boston is racist. That would be a broad generalization.
Yup.
Cam, there are racist people EVERYWHERE. And the racism goes both ways, BTW. But, for Bonds to make a broad generalization is wrong, especially when he has never been to Boston.Umm... Anyway, I think we have pretty much exhausted this thread and the bottom line is that Barry Bonds is an asshole!!!!
Just another overpaid athlete/actor/entertainer who thinks that the world revolves around them.

hehehehe.....
True, there are ignorant people everywhere, but you can have higher concentrations of those aforementioned ignorant people. What pisses me off is when people make Boston out to be this idyllic paradise where all sit around a campfire and sing kumbayah. Newsflash: it's not.
I've gotten looks when I'm talking to white chicks at bars here. I got REALLY nasty vibes when I was in Southie for the St Patrick's Day parade. And just last week, someone called me the N word. So it's here - I'm not imagining it. I don't think ALL white people are like that, but I'm at least aware of what's going on around me. Truthfully, I can't blame him for making his decision. But then again, you have Pokey Reese here and he loves it, so who knows...
You wanna know the funny part? I've lived in Tennessee for many years before leaving for school and work here, and the racist vibe is way stronger here than it is in the south. Yet the south gets a bad rep.
Oh, and yeah, Bonds is an asshole, although he's a helluva hitter.![]()
Yup.
I would agree with you, Cam, that Boston is not the paradise it may be perceived as in some circles. And, it is really too bad that you are made to feel uncomfortable in some areas and certain situations in the city. But, you're always welcome up here in NH!!!

Racist or not, he is Hall of Fame bound, yea right along side Ted Williams.....so just deal with it
Life is full of curves...just lean into them!!!
who has ever said Boston is a paradise. Ive never heard anything like that said about this area, EVER.
And the stuff you quoted Cam was from 30-40 years ago. There is no debating that the Boston sports world was VERY racist back then. But things have changed dramatically in recent years. Look at the best players on the Sox, and most loved too Nomar, Pedro, Manny, all non white players.
Barry was speaking upon the same stigma that you quoted from the past. Is ther racism here, hell yes, and everywhere else in the US. And as mentioned before it definately comes from both sides

As everyone has said already..there is racisim everywhere. And racists everywhere..it is fuggin disgusting.
And Cam I think they hide it better in the south because they have gotten so much flack for it...but trust me it is still there. I was in Ralegih, NC for the past 4 years and the ignorant venom that I would hear in "private" was dispicable(sp?). And what is worse the comments are usually followed by.."but I'm not a racist"One thing I did notice was the racisims blacks have towards whites...that was just obvious..talk about dirty looks. That was something I was not used to....
