I have to move out of my house and am looking to move into my aunt's basement. It's not a furnished basement so I have to do something....
Anyone know of some sort of synthetic wall that is put in front of the cement? Somehow it's attached to the foundation but is removable so you can still access the fuse box or the cement if needed. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about because I can't remember the name of this stuff.
Thanks

I don't know anything about it but I think this is what you're referring to:
Owens Corning Basement Finishing System
not sure where to send you on the wall stuff. but you cannot cover the panel up. just fyi

The Owens Corning stuff is what you're looking for. Not cheap. But install is fairly quick if you have the pros do it.
Yup thats the link Owens Corning, they make the panel to come right off, so you can acces the fuse box and whatever up
Yep, that's shit's expensive... I had a quote of $25K for them to do my basement! Any ideas as to what I told them???The Owens Corning stuff is what you're looking for. Not cheap.![]()

You might want to take a look at UGL waterproofing on the walls. It's like a thick paint that seals the concrete - or just paint.
The manufactured wall systems are really expensive - it would be a lot less expensive to buy the wood, all the tools, etc. and start from scratch.

construction glue, rigid styrofoam insulation, more construction glue, and green moisture resistant wall board, cut channels in styrofoam for wiring, use shallow electrical boxes for outlets , and of course, leave the electrical panel exposed

Sorry does not sound like fun but you will overcome
before anything REALLY check the water moisture mildew situation down there.
Its the start of the heating season so it will dry up but if there is moisture you HAVE to take care of that 1st. If water comes in its realyy not habitable

Just leave it as-is, and make it into "Adrenalinechic's basement of S&M". Could be a new career move as well.![]()

thanks.

Don't guilt trip - make it 'beneficial' for them to give you the rent money.
- Save money by getting an old air conditioner and dehumdifier for free to take care of any moisture problems down there - and then run them 24/7.
- Think of their privacy and get an old refridgerator so you don't have to rummage through theirs and drink all their milk.
- Winters coming - pick up some of those plug in electric heaters. Again, run them 24/7.
About the time the first electric bill comes in - they'll beg you to take the money and move out...
All kidding aside - I've lived in my share of basements to make it through school. Keep your eye on the end of the tunnel, cut back where you can (live like a monk). It's worth it in the end.

If it's decent cement walls, why don't you paint them and the floor? You can put Tyvek house wrap on the ceiling (upside down so the writing doesn't show). And then get away with building only the dividing walls needed for privacy. As mentioned above, the dehumidifier is a must. Put some posters on the walls and a rug on the floor.
