    Beware of Bestbuy

I bought a TomTom GPS during Black Friday last year. I had used it intermittently and now it is dead. I am returning it to TomTom to get replaced/repaired. In the email from TomTom it listed my model with serial number, and the fact that it was a refurbished unit. This tells me that TomTom sucks and have lots of problems. This also pointed out the fact that BB sold me a refurbished item as new. I have no problem if it was labeled refurbished as I would have bought it anyways.

Weird thing with the TomTom after software updates, the bluetooth and my cell phone would be gone, I would have to resync the bluetooth with gps and phone again (very annoying).

I thought I did my homework and researched when I bought it. I hope for a working 730 model or a better upgrade.

Now I don't work in electronic retail and I do not know if it's a practice to sell refurb item as new. Beware of that new LED television people.

I hope to get this back for my trip to NH and riding the Kancamang? I hope to meet some of you folks on Fathers Day Weekend. Me and my buddy are bypassing the crowded scene of that weekend.

Bummer. Only advice I can offer is to avoid the Kanc (hugely over-rated road) and ride some less popular roads like 118, 116, 175, Winona Road, 113, 132, etc. That said, I'd avoid riding in NH for the entire Father's Day weekend. The good roads are clogged with slow riders and police are out in force.

I think these companys lie about stuff being refurbished to try and get out of the warrantys that they provide. Nextar tried that last Dec with me. Fortuneately I bought it through walmart online, and they save a copy of your reciept online(11 months later). They changed it out with a new one, once we pressed the issue.

I do not believe there is any law that states that a company must declare if an electronic device is refurbished or returned.
Also, a company obligates itself with its own warranty not by any state or federal law.
Usually they include a clause stating that they can modify their warranty at any time and it is worded so that they can replace defective goods with reburbish stock or anything they choose.

I don't think any of the roads I listed are well-kept secrets... Not like T**** road in NY or "Roller Coaster Road" (aka "mini-Deals Gap") in Groton, MA; which is one I'm proud to have "discovered" and was the first to share here.

Representing an item as "new" when it is refurbished was the problem here. This is not the same as a fully functional return, which someone tried that worked fine, that was resold as new because the first person simply didn't like it.

Law or no, selling refurbished items as "new" does nothing to create goodwill. My next GPS will NOT come from Best Buy. Thanks ßaller for the info.

I agree......I always thought the Kank would be a great road to ride whenever I drove it in my car.....they I rode it on the bike and was hugely disappointed. Aside from a few corners its not that fun....

The Kanc is fine if you ride it on a bicycle.. ride as fast as you want, no tickets... don't care about the slow pokes, pass them if you want.

    Motorcycle.. not so much fun.
