The cabinet is supposed to advise and counsel the president. What kind of advice do they give if all they do is agree with the president? Come on, these folks are supposed to question his judgement, to debate with him to come to a common ground on policy, not just sign off on whatever he says. Colin Powell at least had the sack to stand up and disagree with the POTUS. These new cronies don't even have the guts to do that.

I think shaking things up is a good things...and I think we are being too liberal in the way we are fighting this war...maybe if we get more stronger conservatives in there we can stabalize things and make some real progress....

Actually I know too much about Condie Rice (she was on the faculty at Stanford. I worked on my doctoral thesis (before dropping out) in conjunction with several members of her department, and I learned more than enough to be scared as hell of her). Basically it boils down to:
Once upon a time she was really the "top dog" in a specific area of Poli Sci/Economics/World Politics research. She continued to be the best of the best for some time constantly supporting her position and arguing it well, over time she got out of touch with the situation in reality and while her research was GREAT (and I don't mean this sarcastically at all, at one point her research was absolutely the best of the best) at the time, she refused to acknowledge new information. Over time her research became more useful only as historical information while she insisted it was accurate "du jour", and ridiculed/got rid of/wrote off/completely ignored any research that contradicted hers, even though "times had changed". Basically she's very set in her ways, and like the president, once she gets an idea in her head, there is no changing it, no matter what the reality of changing situations are, she sticks to her initial interpretation no matter overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
(her research was largely into Russia/USSR. Circa 1984 it was great, Circa 1994 it was outdated but she refused to accept that it was meaningless within the current context)
