    Speed difference

I cant take credit for this but its pretty cool to see. Watch both videos together to see the speed difference between F1 cars and sports cars in one of the best corners in the world. Eau Rouge

I found a classic bikes video from the same perspective - by comparison to the F1 cars they are standing still!
I'll never forget the times I saw F1 live - the sound is *nothing* like what comes through on TV/Video!

Is that MJ Fox holding the bike camera??
It didn't look to be that substantial a difference, imo.

this went around other forums a couple weeks back. nope, not sped up. F1 cars make huge horsepower and the aerodynamics and downforce make a huge impact on speed and grip.

Once you know that an F1 car has enough downforce to drive upside down on the roof of a tunnel, you will begin to understand how they can stay that fast while cornering. They also have a drag co-effecient of pretty much nothing except the wing effect.

That and a crazy motor that revs to the moon.

oh i have studied a lot about F1 and i stopped watching a few years ago (pretty much when I moved here) because it just didnt seem interesting.
I understand the physics behind it I just dont understand how they are so much faster than GP bikes.

Then you don't understand the physics behind it.

800 hp and 2400 lbs of downforce, that's why they're so much faster

you sure you have those motorcycle times right? there's never a 19 second difference between qualifying and the race.

http://www.motogp.com/en/events/Great+britain/2011 - it rained in the race, not in qualifying.

    Re: Speed difference

That is a substantial difference, I just couldn't see it in the video.
I remember years ago watching an F1 race, not sure where anymore I didn't follow it closely back then, but one of the commentators said about how fast the F1 cars were on that track. He stated something to the effect of These cars are running around here like motorcycles. One of the other, I assume more experienced, announcers scowled back with a Are you serious? There are turns here where the bikes are braking into and the Formula cars are accelerating through.
Not sure how long that duo lasted in the auto announcing world.

F1 and GP use different layouts at Silverstone since the remodeling, don't they?
