Alright friends, I have an important question. As some of you may know I’ve been stationed over seas for the past almost 10 months and that I will be returning home in early March. After I return home I will have a short time to spend with my family and then I have to head cross country from Massachusetts all the way to Fort Lewis, Washington. A 3,300 mile trip. A 3,300 mile trip that I made back in the summer of 2008 taking mostly I-90 from Washington to Massachusetts and can I tell you it was the most boring and horrible drive ever.
I was in my Evo and stupidly opted to tow what little I had from WA to MA via a small uHaul trailer which killed any potential fun I could have had in my beloved Evo. This time I want it to be different and much better. I am driving my WRX, which by the time I leave will still be 95% stock. It’ll have a tune only from BrenTuning before I leave to make it run as perfect as it can while being stock. Reason I mention that is because I won’t have to worry about non-stock parts breaking on me or killing my milage and such. I will have me, my dog and towing a small trailer purchased from a member here (If the check for it ever got sent out, I hope!!!) with my Ninja on it.
Now here is my question to those of you that have made longer/cross country trips...can you tell me what you would do, where would you go, what route would you take? I wanted to make a combined trip of it with stopping off to ride in some interesting places or even dropping the trailer and taking the car on some fun roads. I would also like to see some of the beautiful sites in this country. Any and all advice is welcome. The only thing I am considering is going to Vegas to visit some friends and Barstow, CA to visit another friend who is stationed there. Nothing set in stone but I hope it would open up some better options.
I have about 10 days, give or take, to make the trip. No huge rush. I will have the minimum in my car. Clothes for the trip, stuff for the dog and gear for the bike. I am TRYING to get a friend to make the trip with me to share the driving/open up to possibility of riding more when I want but it’s hard to entice one when at this moment I can’t guarantee being able to fly them home though that’s what I would want to do. I would be aiming to leave MA between the 27th and 30th of March.
Feel free to give ideas! Please, I need them!
Also! Any ideas I can’t apply to this trip I will be using for a trip I have planned at the end of August from WA to GA to watch my brother graduate from Basic Training. That one I want to be a solely motorcycle trip. Something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m considering making that a 2 or 3 week trip.
Your time frame is in the cold snowy time frame for Yellowstone, or Mount Rushmore. But they are still places that are nice to check out. What I would do is swing south and go see the Grand Caynon if you have never seen it, stop in Vegas, then maybe go to Deals Gap and then work your way North again. Either way its a lot of driving but lots of fun too.

I'd be very careful where you drop your trailer and bike. Personally, I'd find a small town gas station and pay the attendant $20 or whatever to keep an eye on it and keep it on private property. Have fun!
