    Eating Healthy

I have a question, why is it when I eat all kinds of healthy stuff, I feel like I'm starving a couple hours later? Then when I eat junk food, I feel like I can go forever!!

Just an example, if I stop at D&D for coffee break at 9am and have a med iced coffee and one of those Turkey/Cheeder/Bacon flatbread sandwitchs, I won't feel hungry at lunch...and even don't feel hungry by the time I go home at 3:15. This is the junk food part of it!!

Tonight I stopped at a farm stand on the way home from work and bought a bunch of fresh veggies. So I cooked up some beets, made a killer fresh salad, had a nice thick slice of italian bread, and cooked a pound of pasta. I ate until I was stuffed at about 6:30-6:45 this evening. Rite now I feel like I haven't eaten all day

I'm trying to ease off the crap food but it's hard when you're always hungry?

Did you happen to put any chicken on that salad? You're missing protein and insoluble fiber from that mix. Next time try some chickpeas, some grilled chicken, hard boiled egg and/or a multigrain bread for more protein and fiber; that's the healthy stuff that keeps you feeling full and satisfied. oh and it helps you poo regularly.

fats and oils will make you feel "fuller"- they are 9 calories a pop, so your body is satiated better by that fatty DD breakfast sandwich. It's not healthier, just makes you feel fuller. A pound of pasta? I don't know your weight or how you work out, but generally that'd be an insane amount of carbs hah. Unless your training hard for a marathon, you probably don't need that much. and + 1 on the protein, you need more.

Complex carbs: They'll help you keep that "full" feeling longer. In the current meal above, substitute whole wheat pasta and multi-grain bread. Avoid butter on the bread. Instead dip the bread in extra virgin olive oil (monounsaturated fat) with a spice mixture like garlic and pepper.

As others mentioned above, protein. Hopefully you covered the pasta in a sauce made with lean meats.

    Re: Eating Healthy

Eating simple carbs generally only makes you want to eat more carbs...eating protein will fill you up, at least thats what I tell her.

There is a crapton of science that I'm leaving out that others will elaborate on, but in short - veggies are nice, but lean meats are where it's at. Just gotta make sure you incorporate some veggies in there. The crisper the better (so salads are cool, but don't think the lettuce is doing ya any favors). Try to use baby spinach in place of lettuce and you'll be doing yourself a favor too.

p.s. now if i could follow my own advice I'd be fine, cause thanks to you Im gonna have to have a coffee from D&D this morning now

    Re: Eating Healthy

I also think the reason you're hungry is because your stomach is stretched beyond normal capacity. Your stomach will typically hold about as much volume as a football. I'd be willing to bet you eat quickly and with a pound of pasta, salad, bread you're over-filling it. If you cut your portions, you're right, you'll be hungry for a while. After a few days your stomach will shrink a bit and you won't need as much volume.

One of the reasons Americans have a higher obesity rate than their European counterparts has to do with how fast we eat. Try slowing down when you eat. You won't end up so full that you feel sick and you won't stretch your stomach.

water, fruits, granola's and nuts are your friends during the day when you feel 'hungry'. Get a tub of those mixed nuts from a reputable healthfood store or natural foods market and when you think your feeling hungry, grab a handful and drink 16oz of water.

    Re: Eating Healthy

One good trick to do also is to look at what you are eating. Watch every bite. Do not watch tv or get distracted while you eat. If you look at your food while you eat you will get fuller faster and cut down the amount you eat.

One thing that's been ingrained in me since I was a kid is to eat everything on the plate. Thats what your parents tell you right? "Your not getting up from this table till that plate is spotless". Its okay to not finish. You can always snack on it later. Its better to break a big meal into 2 meals.

If you eat one big meal, your digestive system slows down when its done. Then the next time you eat its gotta fire up again. If you take the same amount of food an spread it out your digestive system keeps going and processes food more efficiently.

I hate them, personally. I've almost completely detoxed from caffine. I have a cup of coffee in the morning, but all of the other soda and whatnot I drink is diet caffine free.

I do LOOOOOOOVE those 5 Hour Energy shots though. They don't have caffine in them.

    Re: Eating Healthy

I eat all day long like every hour. I live on tuna out of the can, chicken salad and peanutbutter sandwiches. I pick on fruits and vegtables all day long. I never feel hungry. I drink a gallon of water everyday throught the day. I work out everyday, lost 22 lbs of fat and finally got ripped abs.
Not too bad for this 44 year old.... Once a week I will cheat on something.
It's not easy for me, but it is a way of life.

those energy shots are probly the worst things that you can drink. pretty sure i read somewhere that they almost literally melt your liver and kidneys.

I have a cup of green tea in the morning instead of coffee. Its lightly caffeinated and increases your metabolism for entire the day, plus there's all kinds of anti-oxidants and immune system boosters in there. You can also chew gum to keep you awake and increase your metabolism, however your appetite increases

Over the years, your body builds up toxins that keep you from naturally burning fat. I used the Isagenics 9 day body cleanse. Worked great for me.

    Re: Eating Healthy

I just try to eat more times a day... that fixes the hunger problem, and its healthier. The hardest part of eating healthy for me is doing it on the run. There are millions of places to quick grab crap food, but hardly any quick and convenient sources of healthy food. Its nice and easy to grab a Macdonald's 500 fat calorie burger, or Duncan donuts turkey, cheese and mostly salt sandwich but most of the healthy meals actually require having time to eat.
