After the Nomar trade at the trade dead-line in '04 you never know what will happen. What do you guys think will transpire before 4:00 this afternoon?

I think it would leave an impossible hole to fill in the team. That said, when someone doesn't want to be somewhere, their performance suffers. At the beginning of the season, he was hustling to first, putting in some effort. Now he's miserable and its being reflected in his performance. I love him, but its time for him to go.

I'm with him(it wasn't a stupid observation though, I just wanted to use that smiley this morning
)
They get a good amount of performance out of that bat. Plus Manny has been playing in front of the green monster for a while,
he would really have to start running again if he played in another park for another team.....
If he fully understood its a contract year for him he wouldnt be making a big deal about getting out of Boston right now. He would play his ass off, shut his mouth and be productive. That isnt the case, He isn't happy and he will not perform as well as he could be or anywhere close. He is one of the better hitters in the league but hasn't shown it in a long time.

we got the best out of him now its time to move on. can't live in the past in MLB.
I've been saying get rid of him for the past 3-4 years. He has been pulling the crap more and more each year.:sanchez:

Manny trade = NO postseason
This is a lot different than the Nomar situation. Nomar was washed up and was NEVER a producer in the post season. Manny produces. His on-field attitude has not changed significantly. He hustles when he wants to hustle, that's who he is and how he plays. I will be sad to see him go... but if he does go to the Marlins at least I will be able to visit him and I can root for the Marlins in the playoffs.
Support the Troops! (Except for Mondo, that guy's a dick)

"The Red Sox don't deserve a player like me," Ramirez reportedly told ESPN Deportes on Wednesday. "During my years here, I've seen how [the Red Sox] have mistreated other great players when they didn't want them to try to turn the fans against them. The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy. I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don't deserve me. I'm not talking about money. Mental peace has no price, and I don't have peace here."
I think that about says it all.

You didnt see the sign? Hes already been traded to Green Bay for Brett Farve!
Anyway, I think its retarded to trade him. He might lose us a game or two, but he wins FAR more than he loses. You cant replace that easy. Nevermind, especially when Papi's healthy he'll be pitched around more, so you'll lose some of HIS production.
I especially hate the media who claim all the fans of Boston want him out! There isnt a single real fan that wants his bat out of this lineup. Sure, some of the pink hat crew want him gone cause the media said the fans want him out, but no true fan wants him gone.
I hope he stays and I hope they can work out their differences...but all the reports say he's pretty much gone...
Its the same thing every year around this time. Yea he is a good bat that will not be easy to lose. But I would rather see a good player playing his ass off to be great, than a great player just playing good.
- TJ
It blows if he's traded... Another Manny/Papi duo is not easy to come by. Despite regular season downfalls, they always produce post-season.
As much as we'll miss his some of his at bats, the inconsistentcy of his play, the jogging down to first base, the long post swing stare at the ball, the flick off of his pine tar laiden helmet as he rounds third base to possibly put an effort into scoring. Its time for Manny to make his departure. Lets clean up the Sox and maybe even pick some one up who will wear the uniform as it was intended to. His offense as well as his defense has been average all year. Yea so what he hit a bunch of home runs but what were his at bats like for the rest of the time? Average at best. Bet you anything some kid in Pawtucket or Portland would give a left nut to put 100% for the big boy team.
Well I'm in the group that loves hard play. I loved Nixon while he was here, I love watching Aaron Rowand, I love those guys. But you know what I love more? Having a vested interest in the playoffs. MOST of those guys that play hard need to because well, they're just not very good. Its a sad fact in sports today that the good players get special treatment. If you think youre going to get someone that plays hard AND puts up Manny numbers, you're off your rocker.
Just win baby.
I personally dont think we are even going to make the wild card with the way things are right now. I really dont think Manny will produce much of anything the rest of the year here in Boston.
Trust me, I dont want his bat gone. Like you siad, No one would want that. But we can get some good trades for manny. I think we need a new relief pitcher.
- TJ
I hope that he leaves Boston.
He doesn't want to be here and
enough is enough.
We've played the Manny being Manny card
too long and have used that card justify all of his
petty actions.
See ya and good luck.....and cut
your fuckin hair
The thing is... he WAS playing hard at the beginning of the season. I think his poor performance is just as much management's fault as anything. They can't just leave him be. Anyone on the team will tell you that he's one of the hardest working players on the team. Sure, he's quirky. He takes the time to high five fans WHILE making incredible plays, but that's just him. Most of the great players in history were quirky.
The only time his performance suffers is when he's unhappy. I hate to say it, but you need to let Manny be Manny. He's possibly one of the best hitters this game has seen, but he's got a very zen-like aspect to him when he's on. One of the reasons he hits so well is that he's relaxed and comfortable at the plate. He's got a mental edge. He loses that when management steps in and starts telling him how to play. I just think its a shame to see talent like that wasted because he doesn't fit into the mold of what a pro ball player should look like. Neither did Babe Ruth. He was a bit of a bad boy in his time. If you want a bunch of players looking alike, not having individual personalities and strictly playing for a paycheck and a win, go watch the Yankees.
