IF you (not WOULD you) bought this, would you go with camo vent shades or black? Can't seem to make up my mind. I don't really care if you're a Dodge, Toyota, Ford or whatever Homer. IF you had this vehicle, which color vent shades would YOU go for? Simple as that...
Yeah, I opted not to have those silly useless "sport bars"...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Black. The camo is tacky and will get old to look at REALLY quick.

I like where you're coming from...
Yeah, it is. I kinda thought the driveway pic would give it away...
Note to self: Don't take wife & redneck kids truck shopping with you. I actually set out for a 3/4-ton or a silver Silverado LTZ Z71 Rally w/ the standard bed. Not even close!![]()

I'd ditch the factory camo badging on the doors, finish the black out look with the shades.
And run Rotella of course.

Chrome.By black do you mean smoked? As a side note, I locked my keys in the truck while parked half in the road in town with 3 tons of scrap on an equipment trailer behind me. Fortunately I had left the window down a bit as I had the vent shades. Yanked that thing off and reached the lock button. Crisis averted.

This is even a question? Black on black with an extra dollop of black on the side.
Chrome? Camo? What the hell is wrong with you people.
I bought a '15 1500 Z71 last year. Can't get over how much I like it. I swore it was a vehicle I'd just buy, have someone else do all the service on and just drive. But now feel tempted to dick around with little details like finding a set of those blacked out bowtie logos for the tail and grill. So cool.
Naturally, I like the lights and grills on the 16+ models even better.
Ogh do the Leveling kit to it also.....

Well...made it to 200K and some nasty electrical gremlins have reared their ugly head. Two shops so far, over $1000 to chase it and still not solid.
I've been testing the mid-size lot (I have my reasons) and so far the Nissan Frontier stands on top. I'll be hopping in a Canyon today with the 2.7 turbo as well as a Silverado with the same engine. I'm not a fan of turbo, I prefer natural engine and I love the proven V6 in the Frontier but I gotta check 'em out. The Frontier also floated to the top in part because I have a friend pimping them and can get me into one quickly and for a helluva deal.
I know a few peeps that have full-size 1/2 tons with the little turbos in them and so far they absolutely love them. Anyone here sporting that in either a mid-size or 1/2 ton? Speak up! I have to get into something ASAP, so this is gonna happen quickly. Most likely by the weekend.
Oddly enough I'd feel too shitty dumping the Silverado on someone even at a wholesale price, but I'd have zero problems with dropping it off at the dealer and taking the hit.

I can vouch for the Frontier, love mine, way better than the Tacoma I had, although the 4.0 v6 doesn't get the fuel economy of my Silverado with the 5.3v8, WTF man full size w v8 better than mid size w v6 ??? I like the ride height better for in an out, more convenient controls, more comfortable for my ergonomics

I haven't heard much bad about the GM turbo 4, it's supposedly built pretty stout. I have a huge mental block with a 4 cyl truck though, especially as a tow vehicle. I'd buy a Tacoma (turbo 4 be damned) or GM midsize over a Nissan any day. I also hate the newer Rangers. Next truck I'm probably going back to 3/4 or 1 ton instead of downsizing. I prefer bigger trucks. Chances are I'm switching back to gas in those, but if I were buying a new 1/2 ton right now I'd still want the 3.0L diesel that I have in my current truck. I feel like there are lots of deal opportunities on trucks right now.....

BIG HP & torque aren't really key players here. I won't be towing much more than my ATV, the camper is staying for now until we figure out what to do with it, and I won't have to worry about hauling firewood for at least a couple years. The Nissan V6 puts out not much less than my Silverado.
I was very impressed, but I went in not expecting much. The claimed MPG numbers are pretty much what's claimed on my 5.3. I managed to get pretty much between 22-24MPG with mine. I'm not a fan of the Taco's and liked the way this drove & handled much better.
I've been reading & hearing about how GM's little turbo is very stout, rugged and overly built. Like you, I'm a fan of V8's. The plain of it is, I just don't need that now and I don't think I'll need that for the next few years. I also prefer the full size, but this is just a short bridge for now until we get settled in PA. FWIW - I was very impressed with the new gen Frontier. But I can see myself back in a full-size in a couple/few years.
And yeah, there's a TON of deals to be had on trucks right now. My goal here is quick & easy with very little out of pocket and reasonable payments. As of right now, the Frontier fits that bill perfectly. While I had planned to ADD to the fleet shortly after our move with an economical commuter, things with my truck have changed drastically. Now it's basically a need instead of a want.

I'm getting 17-18 with my Frontier, 90% rural 45-50mph used to get 20-21 with my Silverado Tacoma was only 16-17. Haven't pulled my trailer yet my guess it weighs about 2500 loaded with my utv. Barely any tread on my tires, but in 4wd goes good, was going to get tires, but my limited miles I might be able to put it off at least till fall.
Plenty of cargo room inside with the back seat folded up. My tonneau cover on the bed makes it possible to lock the bed, mirrors are positioned good.
I owned a first year Nissan '83½ king cab, was one of my better vehicles (the last vehicle I bought brand new)

I took a Colorado LT and Canyon Elevation for spins yesterday as well as a Silverado, all with the 4cyl. 2.7 Turbomax.
First impression with the Turbomax - I hated it in the mid-size vehicles, but for some reason it didn't bother me that much in the Silverado. It still felt...wrong (?) in the Silverado and if you're like me and simply love the sound & feel of a V8, it's a big miss. But in either size truck, that little fucker got up and went. With the midsize version I feel like it kinda fell a little flat in the upper midrange and up, but not so much in the Silverado.
The Colorado/Canyon were abound with the interior tech. The infotainment systems were pretty fuckin' sort out, but I'm not a fan of the all digital gauges/dash. Flashy and attractive as hell and pretty configurable, but definitely not my thing. The interiors in both were definitely more upscale and far more suited for the well trimmed weekend warrior. The rear seat seemed a lot more cramped than the Frontier as well, and the Frontier seemed to have a wider center console. Consequently, one of the things I *HATE* about midsize trucks (and today's choice of SUV's & cars) is the tiny center console. All in all, the ride in both was leaning toward the "meh", while the Frontier at least felt like you were still driving a truck, which I like. The GM offerings that I drove just felt...cheap overall. Which is ironic seeing the money they're getting for these, especially compared to the Frontier.
The Silverado was a different animal, even with the same engine. It drove & rode like a typical Silverado, with the usual array of tech. Fit & finish to me was far superior to the midsize testers. Again though, those flashy digital dashboards with digital gauges drive me nuts. And even with the same engine, it felt very different. I believe they torqued them up a bit for the Silverado, but I'm pretty sure it's the same HP. Maybe gearing makes that much of a difference?
Overall, the GM midsizes really aren't in the running. Well, at least the models I zipped around. I tried to match the options & price points to give an apples-to-apples assessment, but the Frontier TO ME beats either out. I MAY step it up a bit and at least try an upper model, but the overall ride & feel just kinda killed it for me.
The Silverado is still in the running only because they've been good to me. Almost 400K combined out of my last two with the 5.3 with nothing more than basic preventative maintenance and minimal repairs. And the obvious is bed capacity. It's taken me a LONG time just to get used to the 5-1/2' bed. Not sure how I'm gonna adapt to the tiny beds on all the midsizes. I'm going to explore 5.3 options and see where I get.
And I've always loved the AWD drive option with the GM's. That's hard to beat, especially in snow. The flip side to that is where we're heading doesn't get a helluvalot of snow. A little over a foot a year is the general consensus depending on who you talk to/what you read, compared to the 5-6' we typically get.
All in all, of all the midsize offerings I've stepped in, the Frontier is still tops to me. Decently teched out interior, definitely far more rugged appearing inside & out, and I'm still a sucker for that 3.8 V6. While it can't touch the torque of the Turbomax, the HP numbers are roughly the same. Gas mileage seems about the same in both. And not that I'll be towing a fuckofalot, but I keep reading how the Turbomax suffers with larger loads. And let's face it, the Turbomax is really still in it's infancy while the 3.8 V6 is definitely proven.
The beds were all pretty much the same size on all the mids I've tried so far and they're all pretty much within 100lbs. of each other for capacity and have similar volume ratings. There's really not much to compare there other than tie-down points & shit like that. I also liked that the Frontier comes with bed rails and a kinda-sorta-cheesy bed liner while the midsize GM's were naked there. Tie down points and shit like that all seemed to be about the same among all the mids.
For the mids I've tried out so far, here's where I am:
Frontier
Colorado
Canyon
Taco
Getting into another Silverado isn't out of the question. But they're REALLY pushing the Turbomax models hard right now. I'm gonna see what kinda deals they can muster up for one with my trusty 5.3.

We have a 2023 1500 trailboss with the 2.7 turbo for the wife's company vehicle. We are in the process of buying it from them. Almost at 60k, with no major issues (stock tires sucked at being balanced, the exhaust valve rattles and the steering column trim doesn't like to stay all the way closed). It is weird to have a 4 in a truck but its faster than our previous ltz with a 5.3. Like you, we don't trailer much or over load it. My only complaint is having to grab 1-2 gears on the highway for meaningful acceleration. The 5.3 you could roll in the throttle and move a bit.
We like it, that's why we're buying it from them. We've had it since new so we know how it's been treated. I'd recommend it.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
I Have a '25 Taco TRD Sport. i-Max 4cyl turbo. I wanted the 6' bed. I don't tow much, I have a 5x10 BigTex landscape trailer and a 2 person ATV. I don't even notice it's on the truck.
It's comfortable, pushes the right buttons and the Dog loves the back seat. I did the 3 year lease. I get 19MPG combined and really don't notice it shifting or lacking for a gear when i lay into it.
