my policy is ending next week...
i dont like that my policy going up 100$ this year with liberty mutual to 832$
anyone have a reccomendation?
I've tried AMICA ( good)
nation wide ( OK)
Allstate ( OK)
any others??
I take a 1000$ deductible without sewer backup etc and expanded replacement cost.
hmmmm......
Do yourself a favor and get sewer backup if you're on a mains sewage system. I had a claim last year for that. Not pretty. New pumps at the local pumping station and 6 houses on my street ended up the worst kind of flooded. Claim came to about $5k.
derek
P.S I use Commerce for all my insurance needs and they have been great!
Thanks for the tip on the sewer aspect...
Just to clarify... I'm in RI. commerce only serves NH and MA.... though i may be moving to mass or NH for a job .... never know.
hmmmm......
I use State Farm up here for everything. Been using the same agent since I was a teenager. If you end up in NH, lemme know. I'll pass along his info...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?

EDIT: WTF??? $832/year for homeowners? That's fookin' outrageous! Are rates just crazy high in RI or am I missing something?

yup RI is outrageous..
I have 2 possibilities..
Lonza Pharmaceuticals in Portsmouth, ( I would like that one)
and stryker in lebanon.. not too sure abou that kind of far from everything
sell me on portsmouth , please.
hmmmm......
Dood, you can't lose with either! They're both beautiful areas and both areas will ford you all the luxuries & conveniences of a large city. The only thing I don't like about Portsmouth is the 'artsy' feel the area in general gives off. Just not my gig. But I love heading over there for a night just to get some drink on and get outta the sticks. Just fuckin' awesome!
FWIW-Our homeowners is around $300/year...

one negative on Amica... We were with them for years and then we completed a 1860 sq foot home in late 2003.
Amica told us we were underinsured. They wouldn't carry our policy unless we insured the Building for $443,000 plus contents.
I bought the lot for $80k and finished the house for $160k totaling $240k.
The house has been appraised by two banks and the town all within 10k of $250k
The lot won't burn down.... and more then likely the well and the septic and site work and foundation won't either.
I figured insuring the builing for $240k was more than fair.
No to mention they wanted over $1k for insurance
We went with Met Life... for 4 years now for low $300 range.

I've got homeowners with a builders risk policy now and it's just over $700 per year. The builders risk part covers anything construction related until the house is 100% complete. I was told when I bought the policy that my rate will drop $75-$100 per year once the builders risk expires bringing it to the $600 range. I'm still going to shop around when it expires in April, my mother and father are paying in the $300 range per year.

I have Peerless, home & auto on same policy for under $700/yr, had them for several years, my buisiness insurance too,
made a claim once, a power surge did me about 5k in damage, at first, they whined that my homeowners wasn't responsible, I said ok, you carry my business insurance too, I don't care which policy, you can argue between your divisions , got the check real quick

Insurance companies always give best rates to new customers
You have to switch every 4 to 5 years or you will be screwed.

Our property is waterfront, and we're NOT in a flood zone nor are we required to carry flood insurance. The rear of our house is about 30' higher than the water line...![]()
