jeep work

hey has anyone here done any major jeep work on some older models.
i have come across an older CJ-7 with a destroyed I6. i want to transplant a V-8 and find a matching tranny (manual 4x4). what i dont know, is what kind of can of worms i may be opening, should i just rebuild the stock motor and tranny? i also want to remove the humungous lift and 44's... its a little too much and makes it hard to drive down the highway.

i am looking at trying to create a daily driver of sorts... something that could tow the bikes and a trailer and be a mini pickup. sort of. i am not too worried about making a wheeler. i had a truck i did a lot of that with and the cost of the repairs far outweighed the amount of fun i had wheeling. well maybe not. but the parts for repairs were a bit ritarded. next time i get the itch to go wheeling i am getting an ATV or a bigger dirtbike.


what about shops that would be able to help with the transplant? anyone recomend someone that does this sort of thing for a living.

You might want to try www.advanceadapters.com. They have different bellhousings and stuff to adapt certain engine and transmissions/transfer case combinations. Also don't forget most likely you are going to need to alter the driveshaft length if the output shaft location changes from it's stock location..

Damn...I have an '84 CJ-7 that I've been considering parting with. It's not a headache and is in great shape. I've been thinking about it so that I can get a new one. Let me know if you're interested........SVixxer did all the work on it so he knows every inch of it inside and out. He also has his own jeep...so if you've got questions, he would be the guy to talk to. He knows EVERYTHING about jeeps.

what do you mean get for it? i plan on keeping this puppy when i actually get the vehicle here.
