The Conibear is definitely the tool for woodchucks. I gave up shooting them and set two of those, whacked six the first week. No sign of them since, been two years.
I had a .17 HMR with a scope and a hair trigger for such problems. It worked quite well...though the conibear works 24-7 and is there when you're not. Plus the other two get to see what happens, psychological warfare. I like it![]()
The humane thing to do is to use a Have-a-Heart trap. That way you can release the neighbors cat but kill the pests you're after. Since you've got more than one varmint, just leave the first one in there until it exercises it's bladder and bowels. Once that scent is in the trap, the rest will follow on a daily basis if not quicker.
Randy's nearest neighbor is Canada.
haven't been able to get a pic yet of all of em, but I've seen momma and 6 babies

Never even seen a woodchuck till this year. Seen several dead on the road. One alive on on side of road scuttering about And friend in Lowell couldn't get near his truck cuz one was by it hissing at him. He took his bike in that day. Use to be a ton of skunks around. Now it's these things.
My dad trapped a huge one in his off-brand Hav-A-Hart style trap, then killed it. (See thread about .177cal pellet guns.)
Using a sliced apple as bait, he then took the trap over to a neighbor's house who has been having a problem with a family of them, like Randy's got. He trapped one, and to appease the tree-hugging pacifist neighbor, they together drove out to "the country" and released it.
In the past 3 days he's caught 4 more, one at a time. And he told her all about how he's taking them to the same remote spot and releasing them so they can all be together again. And she believes him! LOL

Skunks are easy ( so they say ) Hold up a large blanket, tarp, sheet, etc in front of you and toss it over the cage. Skunks wont spray in a confined area they don't like the smell either then transport them to where ever you are releasing them. Then reverse the whole tarp in front of you and walk away. Remember if you eradicate them they spray as they die...
