I've been the RV service and parts fields for about 5 years now. I've been everything from a service writer to parts manager, parts and service director most recently. Just kinda worked my way up. Also worked doing the same kind of thing in a few car dealerships along the way. In this time, I have never been without a job for more than a week or two.
I've been out of work since January. I became extremely ill over the winter and wasn't cleared to be able to work until the end of April. For that 4 months I was considered totally disabled. Since my full medical clearance,I have been looking online at monster, craigs, the unemployment website, you name it. Nothing. Well, at least nothing that I am used to doing.
The RV business has gone pretty much belly up with this economy and gas prices as they are and the car business isn't doing much better.
I have a lot of basic skills that would carry over from what I have been doing to a new career field but I am just not having any luck finding anything that is a good match, and believe me... I am not being all that picky about it.
I have a lot of experience in management (especially of mechanics/technicians), warranty claims, highly trained customer service skills and all the general admin skills that came along with that field as I climbed my way up (computer skills, typing, Excel, Outlook, scheduling, timecards, A/P, A/R, collections, etc.) I have done a LOT of technical writing (schematics and such).
I'm considered at "expert" level on IDS, Spader and ADP service facility software (for those of you who know what those are), but most proficient on IDS and pulled double duty as parts and service director and IT for the last dealership I worked for.
On average for the past 5 years, my warranty claim pay rate has been at a steady 97% or higher, with many above flat rate time claims, with less than 1% claims returned unpaid in my last position over a 2 year period.
I'm hoping to be able to find a position where I can take these skills and use them in a new field as I don't honestly expect to be able to find something similar to what I was doing before. Every HR person at every dealership I have talked to says they went through massive layoffs and they're still not able to bring anyone back or hire on any new staff.
So if anyone knows of anything that might be a good match for me and my skills, please let me know.
5 months is a long ass time to be out of work and I am ready to move on and put this horrible time period in my life behind me.
Thanks!![]()
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

how far are you willing to travel?
All strippers SHOULD have fake tits!
I've got stuff brewing with the closest Allstate branch (in Mass) for a Senior Claims Rep gig but huge companies like that can take forever to put things together.
Anybody that's somebody in the RV field knows my name, my number and reputation. There was a point last year where I was getting calls on a weekly basis from dealerships wanting me to leave where I was and join their team. Where the hell are those phone calls now when I need them? I just keep my fingers crossed that one of them will call.
