So I grew up skiing, I was really good but haven't been skiing for about 6 years. Looking to get back into it.....
Looking to get a set of skis, bindings, and boots for myself and for my gf. Not looking for $1000 skis...just a solid set that isnt junk either.
I am 6"2, 225lbs...so I am thinking a 184ish cm ski? I use to skiboard so I may want a slightly smaller size.
Suggestions on brands/models?
Any good online shops? Local places in Northshore mass southern NH?

Golf and Ski in Greenland, NH or Putnams in Portsmouth. Putnams does a ski swap/tent sale on Nov 5th. It's a great place to look for deals.

IF you are sure you are going to be skiing a lot, then buy equipment. Otherwise look into a seasonal lease until you figure out what you want. What size shoe do you wear? I have an older pair of boots 13/48 that may work out for a season for you. But in all honesty, I feel boots are the best money spent.

check out the Line Prophet 90s. one of the best all mountain skis on the market. twin tip with a wide waist and even wider at the tips to help float. im about the same size as you and i ride 171s only because i wanted the maneuverability in the trees.
i had a set of K2 Public Enemys (now called the Extreme)that i really liked, but i broke them in a crash. they were a 169.
check out steepandcheap.com for smoking deals on gear. its a great site that constantly changes their deals (by constantly i mean every few minutes something else goes up)
if you havent been in the sport for a while then do as much research as possible, technology has changed A LOT in past few years

I have a set of ski's that are perfect for you 181 Atomics, they have brandnew bindings and the ski's have a season on them. been sitting in my spare room for a some years now. they were $800 new (with bindings).
$100 bucks. then all you'll need is boots and I highly recommend spending a little money on those and making sure they fit perfect. it's really the most important thing about skiing IMHO.
yes, what these guys said...

Ski leasing, yeah I had never heard of that either but a guy at work just picked up his seasonal gear the other day. Thought I'd throw it out there as it sounded like a good option to buying or one time rents.
SSRR, which Atomics are those??
They are Atomic Beta Carv 9:18 - 180's they have about 10 days -15 days at the most on them.
they were just a little too big for me at 170ish lbs they'd be perfect for some one a little bigger than me who will be able to flex them properly.
When I got them they were the best intermidiate ski on the market. perfect of skiiers intermediate to people knocking on the door of advanced. Very predictable carving and can carve many different lines.
they were the first skis I was ever able to carve on. they're a blast!
Not to threadjack, but I'm looking for a nordic skating kit for this winter... if anyone knows of any deals, let me know. Thanks!
Thanks Steve - I am going to pass on these...KB you're up.

What type of Ski's are you looking for? Downhill race ski's or twin tips. what type of skiing are you going for? blues/black, mogels, out of bounds? I can make some recomendations?

ive been skiing for over 25 years. i think my next challenge, aside from making a trip out west, is telemarking. i think it would really keep my legs in shape for riding

Kaz, I still have all my old alpine racing equipment, but I doubt the boots will fit, and unless you're racing, it would probably be overly "agressive..."
I got a super cheap set of brand new twin tip skis on backcountry.com a few years back. They have a lot of good deals on great all-around skis, both downhill and all-mountain twin tips.
Ebay also has really good prices on new skis. I got my wife a set of starter skis and bindings for $300 on ebay a couple years ago.
