Man, I feel like I only come here to hire.

Systems Administrator IV – SME
The successful candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, will receive and resolve escalated trouble tickets and provide technical expertise to members of the systems administration team. S/he will help plan for the future of the systems infrastructure, define processes/procedures/standards and participate in cross-functional teams to evaluate/recommend/implement new technologies.
Required Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of writing proposals or papers, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations to customers or client audiences or professional peers, and working closely with upper management.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes.
- A solid understanding of Windows operating systems and Virtualization technologies; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems.
- A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts.
- Ability to program in an administrative language (Shell, Perl, VBScript), to port C programs from one platform to another, and to write small C or C# programs.
Required Background
- 5+ years of previous system administration experience.
Desirable Background and Skills
- A degree or certificate in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.
- Experience with EMC SAN Storage arrays (CX, VNX, VMAX), Brocade Fibre Channel switches and VMware 4.1 and 5.0.
- Extensive programming background in any applicable language.
- Publications within the field of system administration.
Responsibilities
- Works under general direction from management and manages multiple projects concurrently while adhering to deadlines.
- Designs/implements complex local and wide-area networks of machines (20%).
- Manages a large, complex site or network (25%).
- Participates in cross-functional teams (15%).
- Establishes/recommends policies on system use and services (20%).
- Provides technical expertise for system administrators, system programmers, or others of equivalent seniority (20%).
- Participate in 24x7x365 OnCall rotation and assist in resolving issues, periodically, outside normal business hours.
