Well.. we just got HAMMERED here in Natick, the winds and sky just opened up. A lot of the willows and other type of trees are broken down..... and I went out to check on the motorcycle.
Yup, it got blown over, not rocked off the kickstand, but completely pushed over onto the right side. Thankfully I always park it on the side near a curb, so all it did was hit the curb and nobody else's car. I took a scrape to my side mirror, cracked the upper right fairing and there's now a 3" piece flipping around, I'm going to have to duct tape that bad boy. Also tore my cover a ton of new vent holes.
So... life sucks eh? Nothing I could have done with the bike to prepare it for such a beating? I live in a Condo, so no other alternatives for parking my bike. I am going to go for a little walk later and see if the other bikes took damage in my condo lotWhat a nice way to practice lifting up a bike from the ground.. it sure made it difficult to try to grab it off a curb, had to lift entirely from the handlebar!
I also started it up and checked all the blinkers etc. Should I have waited more/longer before I did this? I'm sure I couldn't have done any worse now, plus it did start up fine..

Sorry your bike got knocked over. Ins. should take care of it, I hope. Rain was going sideways here for a while. Friday nights' lightning show was better!![]()
Really... I could claim this on INS? I'd have to pay a deductible first, and then would it possibly raise my insurance?
we got slammed in waltham newton too... 4 trees down on my way home... and a limb ended up on top of whole foods. and a treee on a car! and busted a window at my work.. this storm had to be a micro burst...
you could have put on rainboots and ur helmet... and sat on ur bike! then it wouldnt have got blown over!!!!
(in all seriousness sorry about ur bike... dont go through insurance wont be worth it)
comprehensive insurance (theft, fire, etc) covers natural disaster situations like this, and i'm pretty sure comp claims won't increase your rate.

Hmm I should make a call and inquire what happensMany trees broken and down, Rt 9 got messed up nicely!
Pisser about the bike, but like Drop said, you should be covered with storm damage. It's not your fault so it shouldn't raise your rates.
I called and got a quick question in to insurance. The lady said I'd be responsible for my $500 deductible first, then otherwise they'd send an adjuster. She said since it was late Sunday I should call tomorrow and speak with an adjuster. She couldn't comment whether it would hurt my insurance rate.
It's not like the bike is pristine like some of you guys here in the club, but the fairing is definitely f'ed up on the right, the frame slider, exhaust took the rest of the damage on the curb. I'll have to check tomorrow what other weird damage might have occurred. Perhaps the damage will be worth more than my $500 and I can take some of the "extra" money back and start shopping on ebay. Looks like the muffler can took some more damage (it was already previously scraped a bit) but it's mangled even more from falling straight onto the curb. There was no damage at all to the body since the original fairings were put back onto the bike when making it street legal.
What would you think the damage would be set up to be worth? It's a 2000 CBR F4. I also noticed it popped out of gear back into neutral after falling. (I did put it in 1st when I parked it so it wouldn't move) Didn't take it out for a ride, I'd assume it should not do damage to the gears from falling and doing that?
Eeesh.. I just don't want to be spending more money now to fix it than anything.. expecting my first kid in 4 more weeks!
well guess I got lucky when I was working. rained a little on my drive to Lexington. then rained pretty good there right when I had the most work to do the entire night, of course. Got to the second store in Lexington center and it was just drizzling. and from Bedford west and then south it was really nice out. Got to Framingham and the ground was soaked but across the street in Natick it was dry as a bone, weird. Then driving through Natick center down 27 I saw 4 utility trucks. didn't really see more than a couple little tiny branches down. nothing that would even cause any damage to anything.
sucks about your bike but hey shit happens. scrapes give it character.

That just blows.
Nothing happened at my place in Rockland. Just a nice cool breeze all day long.

Aw poo... well I just decided to go with the insurance appraisal anyways. The person on the line was so vague in terms of what things are worth and all. The person said, hey, if some of the plastic is broken then it's probably worth more than $500 but that's their own opinion.
Looks to me like the 2 parts of the upper and/front fairing are cracked. Some of the muffler is scuffed up nice. I even took some pictures of the curb that it took some chunks out of. A scraped mirror and maybe some other things.
I Do Little going to declare a state of emergency. This may help.

Wow... so guess you guys are right.. I think the bike is going to get totaled after speaking with the appraiser, he said it's not his final decision, but the pieces broken etc is going to add up, and the bike is not worth that much.
I might have mixed feelings though, not sure how much the bike is going to be worth. I'm assuming I can bargain with the ins company for the price/payout?
I think it might be worth it to buy back if it's not much (also how much would you think a buy out would be?) I think it would get a salvage title...
How easy is it to get re-registered etc? Might just buy it back to sell off for more money? I don't want this to be a problem to many people if I do. I took it out for a spin, and everything else seems okay, maybe a tiny shimmy in the front tire.. gear shifting was still decent, but a few times it wouldn't click in right away.
Rice,
Where in Natick do you live? I'm two towns over from you and I'm always in Natick.
I live in Natick Village... and once a week I go through ashland, but most of the time it's in a car![]()
No shit. I cut through your complex going to and coming home from work!
And I needed someone to go riding with here locally...Now I may not have a bike to ride. Oh well, diapers to change in 4 weeks, I wont have any time left
![]()
Yea with a newborn you probably wont have much time to ride. I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel and I haven't been out riding in about 2 weeks.
why dont you have kid in winter?
"fuckit!"
Sometimes you just have to take it when you can get it![]()
