might be moving to CT

So, after contemplating things for a few months, i decided not to continue on to graduate school PhD program in engineering.......... mainly because I have talked directly with many industry professionals who suggest that the time/money investment in it really isn't worth it.

For my long term goals, an MBA degree or a degree in systems engineering may be more relevant than simply a PhD degree in my undergrad major. After all, experience counts for a lot more than people give it credit.

Anyway, I have landed an offer for an engineering position in the Middletown area of CT. My knowledge of CT extends only to having driven across it once to get to NY and hanging out with some buddies at UCONN in storrs/mansfield.

I am wondering if some forum members who currently live in CT, live in the middletown area, or have lived there, can help me out with 'insider' things such as: good places to live, insurance, etc.

i currently live on the Middletown/Middlefield town line. I might be able to help you out with some questions.

what misfortune??? My PhD program was funded, but I chose to not go. It was a decision that took a lot of research and time to make................

I did mean moving to CT. Just kidding though, I used to live there and now live in the 'Shire. Not a bad place, especially if you are in the Northern part of the state.

I also live in the Middletown area, it's gotten much better the last couple of years. A lot of new restaurants have opened up and in general the main street has undergone quite a bit of revitalization. Some fun roads to ride on in the area also. Sounds good, I'd be up for that, but will need a little time. We just had our first kid and things are a wee bit hectic around the homestead right now.

CT is a great place to live.....and Middletown is right in the middle of awesome riding areas. Over the bridge off of RT9 and your into Portland with great sweepers and all the towns connected down there are great to live in too. Gillette Castle is close by and is awesome too......great little twistys up to the castle and more on the way down. Its only half hour from NW CT also to the berkshires and sick riding. I go back to CT to ride when I can and hope to on Sunday this weekend. Road quality in 90% of the state is great too......im from RI now and look forward to leaving this crappy state. Off to Mass and hopefully better riding.
