Do you leave tip when you drive to a place yourself to get your food? (take-out)
You get no table service (waitstaff, bussboy) and I never heard of a cashier that should get tipped for ringing your food out. I do leave an additional dollar or two, but frankly, I never felt comfortable doing it because of those reasons mentioned. Thoughts?

I never tip on take out if i go pick it up. now if i am out to eat and the waitstaff is doing a good job i tip well. if you suck i will leave a little tip and and a note to find a new job
no tipping for take-out.
tip for delivery or dining in.
I worked as a waiter that rang up take-out orders... we didn't use take-out sales when calculating tip average because people don't tip on take-out.

If they want a tip from me and I'm going to get the food myself, then build it into the price of the food. Otherwise, I'm not tipping for service if no service was given.

no service = NO tip
its funny that i have no problems making $50-100 in 4-5 hours of delivering pizza but 8 hours of delivering heavy furniture brings in 1/3 of that on average.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

mr pink does not believe in tipping.
Sit down service - I tip based on the quality of the service and the meal (ranges anywhere from $0.25 to 30% of the bill)
Take out at a local place - I tip about 10%
Pick up or drive through at a chain - no tip.

For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - and sometimes a scar...
Bad service 15%
Gets lower however if you hold me hostage by leaving me wait 20 minutes to pay the check
Good service, 20% +
Take out I toss the change or a buck in the cup sometimes
Not for coffee or anything like that.

has anybody tipped at the local D&D? i know most of the ones around me will not allow you to tip them
But what if they are charging you for delivery? The chinese place that I order from charges 2 dollars for delivery. I tip them any way, but I feel like the charge should cover it.tip for delivery

Im usually a pretty fair tipper (I think) at restaurants, but the one I hate is at the bar. They expect me to pay 4 bucks for a friggin Bud and then I feel guilty unless I leave a buck for popping the top (which is all the bartender does). communism I tell you.
I consider myself an excellent tipper... but I have to admit I generally do not tip any furniture or TV delivery type people.
I assume (maybe wrongly?) that they are paid normally, as opposed to wait staff that are paid less and count on tips to make up the difference?
Someones have a b%*^&e moment! ;-)
I wouldn't tip them for pickup and I wouldn't leave my change for them either unless its at least a dollar bill. Leaving change is kinda rude in my opinion. Change is for bums on the street who walk up to your car asking you for it.

The one time I did chain restaurant take-out, I left no tip. All they did was bring the food in Styrofoam containers to me at the bar (right outside the kitchen). I don't think that warrants a tip. I am a very good tipper, however, when I receive good service, although I will admit I tip better at non-chains than chains. I also tend to get better service (though not always) at non-chain restaurants.

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
That's why when I go out I try to order up to 4 drinks at once (one for each of us if we're wiht friends, or two each if by ourselves - and if they allow it). I feel less guilty leaving $1-$1.50 on 2-4 drinks than I do on one drink. I know they need the money, and I am willing to share, but I am poor too.

At Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc... I always leave my change. If it's less than a quarter though, I will generally throw a buck instead.
My theory is that if everyone did this, it actually adds up quite nicely. They are usually serving 2 or 3 people PER MINUTE! Even at a quarter, that is 75 cents per minute going into the tip jar.
I shiver when I'm behind someone at Starbucks and they spend $4.85 for their coffee... then squirrel away the 15 cents in change.![]()
