Can anyone recommend a wedding DJ?

Jess and I are getting married on November 5th (in Ipswich MA), and the friend-recommended DJ we were going to use ended up being booked. We're on a really small budget, so we can only afford in the $400 or less range.

If anyone can recommend a DJ it would be much appreciated!

Based on his site/experience he looks like he'd be way out of our budget. Am I wrong?

Robbie Hart seems to be a pretty good wedding singer.

if you have every song, why hire someone. You and your GF make a playlist and let it rip.

Just throw it on an ipod playlist and let her fly. Thats all 90% of the DJs do anyway.

Re: Can anyone recommend a wedding DJ?

A DJ basically becomes the defacto emcee, and they have all the proper equipment, so unless you feel like bringing your own sound system, holding the microphone all night, and spending the whole reception keeping events running yourself, I'd suggest getting an experienced DJ that can hold a room down.

We used Ken Drew for our wedding last August. The prices are definitely fair (he's always got specials going, so I'm sure you can find something for your budget), and he's a great guy. He's got a great selection of music, and if he doesn't have it you can easily request it. He's older, and a bit goofy, but a lot of fun. He'll also do music for the ceremony itself if you need it.

This picture is *exactly* why we went with David O'Leary. We didn't want a guy that's a "personality"

Make sure they take time to meet with you before to go over the "must play" and "no play" songs. Trust me, you probably don't want the Electric Slide at your wedding, but some crazy Aunt will probably request it, so it's good to have the ground rules set. Also make sure they talk with the coordinator and/or caterer to lay out the flow of how the night is going to go.

    Good Luck!
