Hey guys, my g/f is graduating with a mountain of debt and were both looking to get her working ASAP. Wondering if you could pass the word along for us if you know anyone in the field.
She is graduating with her masters in education this summer and looking for a job. She wants to start applying as soon as possible to try and get hired for the 2012 school year. She graduated magna cum-laude with her B.A. in teaching, deans list, sociology honors society, education honors society, and MAC honor rolls from Albright college.
If anyone knows of anything, even just someone to pass her resume along to, we'd both really appreciate it.

As a bonus, if she is teaching in one of the low income districts as classified by the federal government, she'll get a $17,500 student loan forgiveness if teaching math or science after 5 years, $5000 for all other roles.

There are some financial incentives for working in the inner-city systems, but compare salary and benefits. Many of the districts that qualify for 'forgiveness' pay well below average. Remember she has to last 5 years to get the 'forgiveness' perks, and many people don't. You can look up average salaries by district (in MA, not CT) here.
If your girlfriend is seriously considering working in an inner-city school system, she should do a lot of homework researching the school(s) that offer a job, including talking to several present and former teachers. Find out what the attrition rate is for students, teachers, and administration. Either high teacher attrition or frequent principal changes is usually a very bad sign.
I feel guilty saying this, because it effects the kids who need the most help, but in my opinion avoid any Level 4 school like the plague. The politics of Level 4 schools are toxic and there's significant career risk involved. On the other hand, if she's totally dedicated to helping the most disadvantaged kids then that's the way to go.
