If I could go out and get another new cage right now, I'd go for some old iron muscle. Okay, personally *I'd* go get another 'Vette, probably early 80's vintage. But you're more the late 60's big-block type, in which case *I'd* opt for a late 60's - early 70's Nova w/ the 396. But that's just me...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
mid 80's gm car. 60's are getting way to rare and pricey. take a 80's+ monte ss, cutlass 442, buick regal stuff in a 572 big block and go eat some rice.
Have fun finding a good solid SS. I musta cut up 5 of them for stockcars. It's amazing what we cut up in the name of performance...
BUT stuff a good stroker motor, performance suspension and a good gear in the rearend and you'll have fun.
Buick Lesaber spindles will lower it an inch. Camaro a-arms will widen the front end an inch. You can put in a Z28 steering box for a quicker steering ratio and if you're ambitious, get an early 70's pontiac or old rear end it's wider and the axles bolt in instead of C Clips. If your REALLY AMBITIOUS get a 9" Ford and you'll have an unlimited supply of gear ratios.

imho: cars are so much more fun than a 4wd truck on the street; why not go mid-engine and get an MR2, pontiac fiero, or (more expensive) NSX or Lotus Esprit?
they really aren't worth anything anyways. you really can't call a car "ss" when the biggest motor you can get is a 305. great platform as you know to work from. smaller size, rwd, v8 swaps easy. love to find an 87 cutlass someday and put a big block 455 in it.
i've seen old video's of stock cars from the 70's. amazing the classic cars they hacked to go racing. chevelle's, camaro's mustang's etc... some demo derby stuff to that would make you cry!

i have had many old cars and i have the bug to redone yet another.
so far i have had
1957 belair 2 door coupe rebuilt with my Dad
1970 Monte SS with a 454 and factory air or OE parts
1972 chevell convertable ss cowel hood black with white stripes 496 strocker out to 400 witha 0.2 shot of nos line locks and 12 bolt rear with 373 gearing. lord i loved that car.
blew the motor trying to put 2 bottels in her in one day....
then came a bone stock 350 out of a old vett ....that is when i sold her..

Get a Fiero or an MR2.
Don't even THINK about a Miata!

It all depends what you want to do with it. If the truck floats your boat, put the money in that - make it a true toy. If you're looking for a sportscar - it depends how deep into it you want to get. The Cobra replicas look like a lot of fun to build and run. I've been passively hunting around for an original body style RX-7. From owning one - they're great little cars.
