Thumbs down how long before UK bans motor vehicles?!?

Alternate title:"US red light cams aint so bad after all"

I know we've all heard of the draconian traffic laws/enforcement in the UK over the past 4+ years, thousands of traffic cams, huge fines & years long suspensions, paying to drive into the city during the week. This new traffic cam system seems to take big brother to a new level as far as traffic enforcement goes.

The new Specs3 system can communicate wirelessly and will be able to keep tabs on your average speed in up to a 15-mile radius
Sounds as if the system will track your vehicle from camera to camera throughout the zone, probably calculating your speed the whole way instead of only at the single camera site

I see the next step in the UK being a requirement that all vehicles must be equipped with an ECU that will limit the vehicles speed based on GPS location, the cameras will send out the 20mph max signal

You'll have to pay for the device, installation and monitoring of said device.

I'm pretty sure that's already been proposed. I remember reading something like that a year or two ago.

No major change to the time-and-distance cameras on the highway there already.

People will still head out onto the B-roads out of the cities to wick it up anyways
