    USS New Hampshire

Hey all I got to tour the USS New Hampshire last Thursday. It was very interesting and informative, especially getting an idea of how the crew lives and works. My hat is off to all the sub-mariners for all the service they do for us.

She got officially commissioned today and will set sail Monday.

Here are a few pic's that I can show you from it. Cool stuff.

    Cheers, Brew

    Going in.

    Commissioning plaque on board.

Lock chamber for divers & deploying Seals.

It is a very nice boat. The company I work for has a couple of systems on it and I've had the pleasure of kneeling on the steel deck for a few hours under a stair case while trying to work on one of them. At the time it was still in drydock at Electric Boat in CT. It really makes you appreciate the space on a larger surface ship.

I know that picture. I was workin in there. There are lots of smaller crevices/spaces that I have been in, and I do most of the stuff in that last picture both inside and out. It's pretty slow as of late at Quonset.

i did a 3 day cruise on the Virgina (same class as the new hampshire). lots of cool tech in there. it is smaller than the subs i served on (688i LA Class) but they seem to utilize the space better. only thing is all the power distribution equipment is digital. don't know if i trust that.

The last USS New Hampshire to sail:
all of the submarines have old ship names for the most part. they started off with fish or shark names and then when the 688 came out they started naming them after cities (with the exception if the USS Hymen G. Rickover) and the Balistic missle boats were named after states. now they are naming the new fast boats after states so you will see a lot of old battleship names comming up. i know the virginia class allready includes the Virgina, the Texas, The Hawaii, the New Hampshire, and the North Carolina. Missile boats include the Michigan, the Ohio, The West Virginia, the Florida, the Georgia, the Pennsylvania, the Kentucky, the Nebraska, the Maine, the Louisiana, the Rhode Island and many more. there was also one Seawolf class named connecticut. There is currently no USS Massachusetts in the active fleet and The Submarine USS Boston has long since been decommed.

When MA votes republican, they might get a boat named after it. It'll be a 14' Boston Whaler, but at least it'll be something.
