...at least her belly is.....which is to be expected since we're about to have our first baby!!
(Yes, before anyone crucifies me for the title she thought it would be funny if I titled it that).
I am completely pumped... and a bit nervous. Going on a little over 3 months pregnant now and every day she has a new idea of what we should take the kid to see, or do, or some way she wants to set his/her room up.... pretty funny.
No, I'm not getting rid of the motorcycles or cars though we are putting her bike up for sale for now. Been going crazy lately getting the last of the big house projects done so I don't need to worry about them once the kiddo comes.
Due date is mid Oct![]()
I will be the first to say... ...congrats! That's awesome!
Congrats! Your first?
October 7 is the best date to be born. Ask someone who knows.
BTW, I noticed the "his/her" thing. Are you planning on asking ahead of time about the gender as shown on ultrasound readings? For each of my three my wife & I both wanted to find out on the day of birth. Much more excitement that way!

Wonderful.
And if I can offer advice, don't learn the sex beforehand. It's a blast finding out at the time.
at least you have an excuse...
Congratulations!!!

Cool. my wife was 6 month pregnant and told me buy a bike. some of us r just lucky. lol good luck
Thank you everyone!!!
We did the ultrasound just yesterday and it was so cool. The little guy/girl was kicking and stretching all over. The doctor even got a kick out of how active the baby was... must take after me
Yup, this will be our first! We have been married 7 years but just hadn't been ready yet; this year we decided it was time
Yeah, we went back and forth on that briefly but I think we are going to go ahead and find out. Kristen isn't much for surprises and I tend to think too much otherwise lol. Given what everyone is saying I'll talk to her again about finding out but I'm guessing we still will.
Some of us definitely did get lucky with girls that actually encourage us to ride. I feel bad for folks whose wives immediately make them ditch the bikes.

Congrats! Like the some commedian once said, "Parenthood: It's a lot of work...but it's worth it." Prepare for not sleeping for a few years and save up your vacation time for doctor appointments, but the overwhelming awe of ushering a new life into the world is the highpoint of many people's lives.![]()
If you can't decide, you can always have the ultrasound tech write the sex on a piece of paper and put it in a sealed envelope. That way, you can open it if you really want, or leave it sealed. Or, have a gender reveal party (alternative or in addition to a shower), and find out with all of your family and friends.
We waited, and it was magical.

A perfect word to describe it!
When you know ahead of time, all the expectations are set. The baby will be a xxx, the name is xxx, and all our plans have fallen into place. Or so you think.
The most wonderful thing about parenthood is the surprises we get along the way. Those surprises are what makes life grand as some are joyful, some are tragic, and everything in between.
When our children were expected, we talked about possible names, but did NOT decide firmly ahead of time. Of course we chose not to learn gender, but even nailing down names, to our minds, was pretentious. When the babies were born, we waited a few hours for the effects of birthing to self-correct. Then when we got a good look, Donna and I together named each as the name appeared to fit the new person that we were now in company with.
There really is something so magical about seeing the child for the very first time, and discovering right then and there this new person who becomes the center of your life. We chose to allow that person, in essence, be a big part of the whole experience by surprising us in every way. Just thinking back on it now, and it was nearly 31 years ago for the first one, the feelings I have about the way we did are stronger than ever. If you always live your life by playing it safe, you deny yourself some of life's GREATEST thrills!

no way i could wait, i had to decorate, buy stuff. I get to excited about things. either way, its cool. kids are HARD work but boy worth it....
Congratulations!
I've never heard of a 'gender reveal' party. That sounds like an interesting idea! I REALLY like the idea and am going to run that by the wife. Thanks for the suggestion!
We do have a few different names picked out for boy or girl. We wanted to give them their own first name but a middle name that has a family tie.
Names, like SprintPoser said, are not set in stone but we did want to have thought about it in advance.
Our options so far are:
Girl names:
Lily Carolyn <- Carolyn after my grandmother and my favorite cousin.... yes, they are two different people before anyone makes an inbred family joke
Zoey Amy <- Amy after my wife's mother and my cousin that died in a fire in Burlington when we were teenagers :/
Annabell (Amy or Carolyn)
Boy names:
Eli Turner <- Eli pronounced like the football player... but not named after him lol. Turner was the name of my uncle that passed away following his years as an army medic in WW2.
Rebel Young <--- Young is my wife's maiden name.... Rebel I am not sold on. Could be cool or could be corny. What do you guys think? I almost thought it was more a girls name if anything.
That's not to say those names won't go right out the door when we see the kiddo and go "oh, he looks more like a Joe Bob"..... kidding.... That name IS out.
Neither one of us are the play it safe type, but we are both the 'way over-think everything in advance" type lol.
My friends had the gender sealed in the envelope and gave it to another friend, who made the cake for the gender reveal party. The cake was frosted in chocolate frosting and the color of the cake itself was the big reveal (in this case the cake was pink). That way everybody is in suspense except for the one person that baked the cake, and the parents-to-be get to learn the gender and reveal it to everybody else at the same time.
Congrats you two!
