I bought a well configured new Dell laptop of ebay for $500

When it was awakened it quickly showed all sorts of pop ups and routing through various 3rd party sites
and eventually started locking up
I put it away and when restart the wifi was non functioning like the hardware wasn't there.

I was afraid it was a turkey and I was out the money

So I poked around and found RESET

It flushes and reloads 10

with Ethernet it took 4 hours but it woke up a clean 10 installation without the voodoo it arrived with

so 500 these specs seem like about 650 , 700 machines

Yes It came with factory installed malware which the reset purged

Been using it at work for a few months now. It's solid.

WAY better than 8 or 8.1. Just as easy to use at 7. I'm happy with it. Especially since they added the DHCP module back into the Admin pack recently.

If I'm going to be "going rogue" and dl'ing illegal torrents, I wouldn't be using a Windows box anyways.

I have a new Windows 10 machine myself , only have an I3 though.

Seems fine to me but I know so little about computers besides keeping them clean, don't spill liquids and don't drop them.

It might be advisable with a new machine to just do a clean installation as soon as it comes out of the box. That way, you get rid of all of the manufacturer's bloatware.

I know that not many want to do that, but it may be the best way to avoid unwanted interaction from the manufacturer.

I'm with Clay on Windows 10. I really like it, but I also liked 8.1 and not so much 7. Of course, I'm not an network or desktop admin, so I don't deal with the horrors that each new OS creates with a corporate network.

Or better yet, whats the service tag on the system

Agreed, been "beta testing" it on my domained work PC and it's been pretty flawless. Only thing that annoys me is the new Windows build release method. Microsoft needs to find a better way to distribute their OS...the full reinstall method is tedious and unnecessary.

Eh, I'm not that particular about it. All the OSX installed/upgrades we've done have show significant performance improvement if doing a clean load vs upgrade.

I like to start fresh every year or so. Takes me a few hours.

What annoys me about it is the tendency to hang halfway through setup, leaving a mess of files after a restore of the old OS. If it does complete successfully, it leaves the old OS in Windows.OLD, which most users won't realize you need to cleanup with Disk Cleanup. I guess that more applies to home installations however.

Yes, just make sure to backup your files first. I also like to download all the drivers and put them on a usb drive. At a minimum you want the network driver so you can get the rest. Win <10 machines should have a sticker on them with the license key, win10 you don't need a key, they register your hardware.
