My lack of time can become someone else's good deal if you've got a little time and motivation. Somewhere around 1,000 miles ago, it blew a head gasket and we had the heads completely redone and a full round of new parts that get bolted on when you typically do that. The car has 175,000 miles but still drives like a new car so I figured I'd invest the $$ and keep it around for a while. Did the brakes and everything else while I was at it. Last week the engine (2.5L Turbo) had a turbo grenade. So, we put a new one on there only to discover that the car has no compression (you would've thought we'd do that first). So, now I've got a car with a fresh top end, new turbo and a grenaded lower end. I'm out of time and patience to deal with it.
This car has power everything, heated leather seats, most every option available except a sunroof. If you're up for a motor swap, asking $2000/BO and will consider trades if you're the bartering type.

Is this a result of the "too-thin oil return line" for 2005 models only?
Post it on NASIOC in the NESIC classifieds. Should go quickly.
A quick google search shows replacement engines just over $2,000... plus $2,000 asking price for an awesome Subaru (look up the interior, essentially a Subaru-Audi A4), beast in the snow, plus labor. No clue what labor cost would be, but $4450 for a loaded 2005 Subaru Legacy XT with a warrantied engine (engine with warranty is $2450 on ebay).
Sounds like an awesome deal to me!! Someone snag this, I wish I had the cash, glws!
Outback* same thing. I had an 05 LGT, hence the slip.
The XT and 3.0R models have the VTD drive system. This is a much more sophisticated system than the 4 cyl Outbacks have. It has a 5EAT instead of 4, and more importantly a gear-driven center differential that splits torque 45/55 as a default. This makes for a much more neutral handling car. Many of them (not sure about this one) also have a rear LSD. Their ground clearance of around 8.5" is the near-perfect balance between handling and getting through tough winter conditions. It's actually a lot more: the 8.5" is the minimum. Unloaded it has 10" in the rear at center, so even when you load them up they still get through the snow.
