This one really does require nothing. Everyone I've talked to has advised leaving it alone and just running it for a long while.
I had the body work off for the oil change and to install the voltage monitor this spring. I'm kind of amazed how solid this thing is mechanically. All the rubber hoses and such are soft and pliable, no signs of cracking. No leaks. The biggest problem is I over-oiled the chain and made a mess of the belly pan and spent half a Sunday cleaning it. I won't see a machine of this era in this condition for a while. It definitely isn't the wreck I envisioned buying.
On a related note. SSSA chain adjustments are fookin' EAAAASY! (OE tool kit included.) Especially when the machine has a center stand.
Edit: Sorry I didn't mean to imply anything about this bike would be unreliable.... My issues have all been down to chasing HP, the stock engine and my street bike have been nothing but a dream to own, ride and work on
The chain adjustment is super easy, but don't forget your ride height changes every time!
Seriously, these are kick-ass bikes. The V4 was almost a loss leader but Honda didn't care, it is such a good engine.
I learned on a V65 Magna, eventually owned a V65 Sabre and romped on an ST1100 out in Seattle. Loves me some V4.
My dad had a V45 Magna. I lusted after the VF/VFR. Had a poster of this very machine on my wall as a kid. Can't believe it took me this long to own one.
<= Also loves him some V4's. Such a nifty engine.
Bump.
Sale now includes (what I think is a full) set of new, old stock radiator hoses. Because the previous owner is a frickin' pack rat who seems to dig having spares.
My offer stands.
Cash money today.

I've totally forgotten to bump this recently. Yeah. "Forgot". That's the word I'm looking for.
Pardon my ignorance.
1. What sort of track bodywork would fit this thing?
2. What sort of brakes did they ship with, in 1991? Any known monoblocks or at least modern caliper / master combos that would bolt right on?
3. Can we count on any aftermarket support?
4. Its carbed, I assume. Does it come with any books with magical songs and hymns to get the carbs working in top order?
I am interested in this thing and I have a problem.
Carbs on this thing require no magic at present. They were rebuilt recently. And tuned rather well in my opinion. Machine idle sometimes creeps. Fortunately the adjuster is a short reach down below the tank. Of idle the thing pulls like a pissed off freight train with a sound that will make you giggle like a school girl. Or maybe it's just me. Maybe.
Keep them clean. Feed them stabilized fuel if you think it's going to sit for a while, and I am pretty sure she'll run well for quite some time.
Ken's nearly brand new Explorer 1200 did pull on me though. So I guess there is that.
Ultimately.. it's a fuckin' Honda, man.
I just realized tonight is moto-night in Portsmouth. I'm totally taking the VFR.
So many cool bikes, so little time...

Pretty much what I say when I walk into my garage. I need more time. I need to stop with this working for a living crap.
