That looks awesome. I probably should have waited for you to get some photos my way before pulling the trigger on my new Kawi.
GLWS. Lemme know if you want to part with those tires.
how would this be for someone in the 250# range? and new to woods riding?
This would be a great trail bike for anybody in that weight range that is new to trail riding. Its only deficiency is no E-Start, really. Xr400's are comfortable, reliable, and competent. As your skills increase, the Xr will be right there with you. This particular bike looks to be in fantastic condition.
thanks for the input. i have no need for the ice tires, and just need to know if i can make this bike legal to ride the trails in oxford.
and ive had smaller dirtbikes in the past that were kick only.

Buy the bike. Buy new tires. Sell the ice tires to Colin.

sounds good. waiting to hear back from original poster.
I think you could pull the screws if you really wanted but I don't know how that would effect tread life.I'm 230 and it hauls me pretty good....Take a look on adv rider or thumper talk they have xr 400 specific forums that are really informative too.
Make the deal already.
i assume thats not the stock seat set up, whats the seat height?
electric start on these?
im contemplating this for the wife

The seat has obviously been shaved way down on this particular bike. XR-400's are pretty tall, in comparison to say, and XT225, an XR200, and even taller than a mid-80's XR250. A DR350 is a little bit lower. Overall, I would say that the XR-400 is a pretty tall machine, in stock form. Combined with the relatively high weight, the height can be a significant issue when things get slow and tough.
No - XR400's did not have electric start - kick only.
Are you the original owner?
This is turning into Craigslist...too many questions from people that dont do their homework...this is a HONDA , this bike is a great piece of machinery , buy it fer crise sakes !
Thanks gregp for answering svracer01. They do make lowering links that will drop the bike up to 1.5 inches. No electric start tho.Once you get the drill down its a piece of cake to start. I bought the bike from the original owner. Accepting reasonable offers dont be shy....
