I bought this a couple weeks ago with intentions of rebuilding it for my truck..at the same time, I made a deal on a second engine that i didn't want to pass up. Today, I payed for the second engine, so I would like to sell this one.
It's a good core, but it does need a complete rebuild.
details...
1972 LS-3 402cid
Rated at 240hp at the time
Engine # CE258757 ... only information I was able to find from the number was the year, it was produced for a Camaro or Chevelle and it was built at the Tonowanda Motor Plant in 1971
Head casting # 6272292 open chamber large oval ports.
I have disassembled most of the engine for inspection except removing the crank and 6 pistons.
The good
..still has standard bore and they look to be in great condition
..still has standard sized bearings and the crank also looks to be in great condition
..it's probably the best rebuildable core you could ask for, seeing it is 100% original by the numbers...even still has the stock teflon timing gears.
The bad
..I broke a piston skirt...which isn't really that bad seeing one would normally replace them anyways.
.. From sitting, there was a mouse nest in one of the valve covers, which rusted some of the valve springs and components. Again, one would replace these things anyways, I just don't want any surprises.
Other than that, it's a complete engine...Block, heads, oil pan, timing cover, intake, valve covers, water pump, harmonic balancer.
Asking $550
