Can the arms come off to convert this into the other style chest/back protector I bought from you? If so, color me intrigued but non-committal.

Yes, this is modular so it can be used 3 ways:
Chest/Back
Chest/Back + Shoulders
Chest/Back + Shoulders + Elbows
