Wanted: Motard

I want a motard.

I had one once before, but it wasn't a real motard. It was the body, suspension and brakes of a motard with the heart of a moped. A very weak, old, Chinese moped.

I want a real motard - a manly man's motard. (If such a thing exists, of course.) Something with more than 40 hp that I can flog around the track at Loudon with a big shit-eating grin on my face while holding up traffic in the intermediate group and passing people in completely inappropriate places. Hell, if I can get the time off from work, perhaps I'll go to the track and lose some races.

So, if anyone sees a good deal on a real motard - i.e., not a DRZ400 - drop a brother a line. In return, I will buy you cheap beer after a track day and introduce you to one of my wife's slightly disheveled, dirty, but horny and single friends.

there have been a few on supermotojunkie that look like decent deals. I saw a few crf450s recently. I think an 04 for $4500. Or you could try to look for a cheap mx one (there was like an 03 for $1800) then buy all used parts to convert it to supermoto.

Hmm....I think I saw one of those Aprilia's on e-bay, thats a good possibility, I will check!

I'm too lazy to do any sort of converting into a motard. I had both setups for my DRZ, and swapping over was just enough of a pain in the ass for me to go buy a real dirt bike.

I wouldn't touch an 06 or 07 so be carefull with what you buy. 08 and 09 are quite a bit more reliable but still not up to the Jap stuff. From what I've heard/read, the SXV 450 is much more reliable than the SXV 550, down fall to that is the 550 has 10 more hp

I rode Mike Green's Aprillia think it was the 550. It was different for sure. The map was all fucked up. The thing would rev to the moon but didn't like the low rpm's.

I'd stay away from the Aprilla's. I've seen three guys try to run them at loudon and hated them.

Get yourself a KXF450 it's the new "in" bike I hear.

Yup, Mike has an 06 550. From what I've been reading, it takes a lot to get the suspension dialed in. Once it's dialed though, they seem to do pretty well. I love that small V-twin sound
