Not to take away from what an awesome bike the RC30 was...but I still say the ultimate historical Honda streetbike has to be the NR (750):









Those that know what this bike is know exactly what I'm talking about. For those that don't, picture it as street-legal Honda GP bike, a la the Ducati Desmosedici...only back in 1993. In all honesty, it wasn't the actual Honda GP bike, that was the NR500. The 750 version was made in '93 as street model based of the NR750 endurance bike. This bike inspired the styling for the RC36 and later VFR lines. Still one of the most highly collectible motorcycles ever, it sold for over $50k when new, and these days some have been known to fetch well into six figures.

I don't think you'll be seeing this one on ebay anytime soon...

Oh and that honda 750 motor... I wonder why they went with an oval piston. How does a ring spread enough to fit around that? Not to mention 2 con rods per. Why not v twin or v4 or even split the pistons and go with v8. What is the benifit?

They couldn't do a true v8 which is why they went with the oval pistons.

Look it up in wiki for the history. Its a good read.

The rules back then said 4 cylinders was the max. So they wanted the 32 valves of a V8 to get 8 val./cylinder. That significantly increased the output over the standard 16 valve V4 config.

Also, I think I goofed...the picture of the pistons might be from the NR500, as the 750 pistons were elliptical (slightly curved on the long edge), and the NR500 had flat sides, like those in the pic.
