Please try to keep this on topic, I have little patience lately....
As many of you know, I am expecting my first baby early this summer. The problem is that I am having a hard time finding maternity clothes that I like and can afford, as I am currently jobless and in school, and Rob doesn't make enough to buy me a whole new wardrobe right now. I have found that I hate over-the-belly style things, which is all I am finding for cheap. Also, call me picky, but I want to look my age, not like a 50-year old school marm, so I am trending toward bootcut pants and somewhat fitted tops.
I was wondering if any of you ladies, or guys your wives, have old maternity clothes that you want to part with for little to no money. I am about a medium in pants (some companies I was a small, but in general, mediums worked) and a small/medium in shirts. I am between in shirts because I am only 4 months and don't have much belly, but my prepreggo stuff is getting tight and amazingly short in front.
Thanks for any help!

not sure if i had said congrats yet, but congrats. i don't have anything for you, but when my brothers girlfriend was pregnant they were in a similar situation, my wife and i found a lot of stuff on craigslist. it does take a lot of searching, obviously no one wants to be buying sketchy stuff from dirty people. we eventually found an upscale family that was done having kids and selling everything, we loaded up.
like i said, there is a ton of searching involved, but the stuff is out there.

1.) Congrats
2.) I'll talk to my gf and see if her friends have anything
3.) http://www.freecycle.org/ is your new friend. People get rid of maternity/baby stuff EVERY day (I see it daily). Sign up for your local one, or the Boston one. You'll love it.
good call, freecycle would probably be awesome

thanks guys. i am wary of craigslist and freecycle, mostly because of the "dirty" factor, but i will keep them on my radar.

my wife was to but remember you can say no thanks and bleach kills everything!we found some very well off people selling upscale cloths for babies and moms cheap. look at consignment shops to. we couldn't see paying new prices for stuff your only wearing for a few months, you and the baby.
There are a few baby and maternity consignment stores in Southern NH and Northern MA:
Children's Orchard - Nashua - kind of upscale, little more expensive
Little Trends - Dracut - Fairly inexpensive and good quality stuff
Mother & Child - Nashua - This one's my fav. My sister and I found a TON of great stuff here.

Congrats on the baby. My wife had the same issues, she said all the maternity clothes make you look like a old lady
I found a listing on CL that seems respectable, cheap, and full of more clothes than I could possibly wear in the next 6 months. I have been in email contact with her all day, and she seems like someone I'd want to do business with, not to mention her clothes are mostly semi-professional, which i need for my internship. hopefully I'll know more this weekend.
Thanks everyone!
thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it if the craigslist thing doesn't pan out.

thanks. Yeah, it's crazy isn't it? The large majority of pregnant women are int heir 20s and 30s and all the clothes out there are something you'd find in the "grandma" section of JCPenney. Nothing trendy, no bootcut pants, sweaters that look like something out of a horror movie.... Craziness. Or they're totally lame and covered with cartoon characters and sayings like "Baby on board" or "I'm not fat, I'm pregnant."

no, can't afford it this year. we are very fortunate to have new babies all over the family. rob's sister had a little girl in june, his brother's new daughter in october, and his cousin's wife is due in a couple weeks with a boy. not to mention, his brother also has two little boys whose clothes are still mostly kicking around (or getting handed down to the cousin). So, as far as clothes go, we have plenty to choose from in hand-me-downs, and three grandmothers who love to spoilwe have already gotten some gifts of clothing and stuff for Christmas and "just because"

Lemme know what you need. The storage loft above our garage is literally packed with all kinds of baby stuff. In fact, don't by ANYTHING 'til you make a trip over - seriously. It was all gonna go to Families In Transition in the spring. I'd rather have it go to people we know. All we ask is when you're done with any of it, you pay it forward...
How's next weekend sound?
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
