WTB: 2 bikes for new riders

Hey all, my cousin and her boyfriend are looking to get into sportbikes, so I figured this is the place to try first. She's pretty tiny, and is really into the Buell Blast, and naked front end bikes, it just has to be small enough for her to fit, sh'e like at least a 500, and at or under $3000. Her boyfriend is about 6'6", and not a skinny dude, so he's looking for a sportbike that wont be too cramped, he knows a 600 is plenty fast enough, but that some of the bigger bikes won't be as cramped (even though I told him to expect to be cramped, regardless). He's got about $5000 to spend, and again, they are both beginners to the sport bike scene. So if you have anything to get rid of, or know anyone who is, please let me know. Thanks!

the ZZR600 is a pretty roomy bike & you can find em for under 5g's. I had an '00 ZX6R... same bike. Some of the newer big displacement sportbikes are JUST as small as today's 600's.... Don't judge a bikes size/comfort by its displacement.... Get out there and actually sit on the things.

Try there. Its in the price range your looking for, for her.

When you say she's tiny, do you mean she's thin, or short? I mean, an SV can be found for short money if you look at the right time, but if shes only 5' tall, probably not a good first bike choice for her....

for him mid to late 90's rf600r's are pretty roomy and look great. cost about 3k .i would stick with a blast for her if she is as tiny as you say. cost from 1500- 2500 depending on yr and mileage. ou can find good bikes on craigslist as well.

Then for her I would highly recommend she go and spend a day touring dealers to sit on stuff and find one she can flat foot or almost flat foot. Worst thing a new rider can do is get a bike they can't touch on, at least IMO, because that's when tip-overs happen. And too many tip-overs can really damage someone's ability to enjoy the sport. Not too many sport bikes out there are good for shorter riders, so her options will be much more limited than his.

+1 on the RF, but it actually might work better for her than for him. The seat height was all of, IIRC, 30.5 inches. I'm 5'6 and had one for my first bike and was able to flat foot the thing, so she'll probably be able to tippy toe it no problem. Just for a price reference, I sold my 94 600 in good condition (plastics were scratched, rattle can paint job, but mechanically perfect) for $1600 in March.

There's a great post for a 2001 Buell Blast on CL:

    http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/mcy/1154994570.html

"Both high saddle (for taller people) and low saddle (for shorter people), motorcycle cover, and Cortech saddlebags (nice) are available."

Pre 2005 ZZR (the ZX6E) is old school but more comfortable and roomy for him. For her, it's difficult. The Ninja 500 will be shorter than the GS500 (I tried both), but still too tall. I second the ninja 250. It will be plenty. Other one for him to try is the FZ6 - its roomy for bigger people. All the new SS will be very cramped.
