    WTB Ex500 goodies

Just picked up a $75.00 1993 EX500 to put back together for track days and the like. I need a buch of gear and thought I would start with you guys and see what happens. Items needed

Rear sets woodcraft or similar [if exsist]
Rear wheel, brake and all of the goodies to upgrade from drum - needed to do the rearsets
    handlebar - 1
    seat
    Brake Lever
    All plastics

I'm betting there are a buch of other things I will need.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

    Kev - aka NIxoid

    EDIT============

I have the swingarm and REAR Rotor & Brake in the mail now but still need 17" wheels, [f/r]axlels rear master cylinder, right rearset and brake petal.

upgrading from the drum to disk isn't worth it unless you're doing the 17" wheel conversion. I assume that's the goal?

and don't worry too much about plastics if you don't find em, I'll be runnin naked too

Nixoid it was nice talking to you the other day. Congrats on finding that EX so cheap! I ended up going with an SV650 Hope to see you at some track days this year! Someone posted up saying they had a box of EX parts the other day, you might want to search for that as well. GL

Don't really know much yet about the wheel conversion. I've had the bike for 24 hrs.... Explain it to me. Will the swingarm need to be changed? Since mine is a drum is there a rearset for this arrangement? If so I'll save myself the headache. I kind of have my heart set on moving the pegs but can live with out this as well. I'm really just looking into putting a bike together that I won't feel bad about dumping AND keeping the costs down.

    Re: WTB Ex500 goodies

you've got the 16" wheel version which drastically limits your tire selection. Basically you've only got two choices... Pirelli Lazertec or Dunlop 501GP. Those will allow you to get under the 1:30's just fine, but shortly after that point you'll start wishing you were on better rubber.

Do the 17" wheel conversion & all of a sudden you get options that include all of the REAL track worthy rubber.

The rear drum is no big deal, especially to me since I never use the rear brake, but the 17" wheels are a must if you want to start racing competitively.

The whole rear end needs to be replaced. swingarm, brake system & wheel.
The front is a little easier. Just get a 17" wheel, turn it around so the brake rotor is on the same side as the caliper, ditch the speedo & fab up some custom spacers.

... or buy my EX for 1200 bucks

If you end up sticking with the 16s, I have a pair of 16" wheels with a pretty much brand new set of dunlop 501s. I also have most or all of the plastics for a 87-93 ex500. I have an upper and a taillight section, and I'm pretty sure I have one or both of the side covers too.

Definately interested in the plastics. I have the center rear section. The rear side peices I would like as well as the front fairing. I think there may be other things I need. I may stick with the 16 and may want the tires.

PM me with prices and if you have them pics. I see you're in Derry. Any chance you're going to the Northeast Motorcycle expo? Boston Massachusetts :: New England Motorcycle Expo We may be able to arrange a meeting

I'll give you $50, 2 R6 swingarms, a front fairing from a 1985 ZX600a, and a KBC helmet spray painted black with no shield in exchange for the EX.

Alright, I gotta work on this. To clarify, a full size horse won't work, even if seriously drunk? If I got a midget drunk, and made him/her dress up as a horse, could we go that route?

Hmmm, I may have a spare handlebar. What side?

Don't bother with the rearsets. 17" conversion is your #1 priority.

I have some SuperCorsa take-offs cheap. Not quite shagged and will do fine for a while for anyone in the 1:30 range, $50.

Best I know the handlebars are interchangable....[?] That being the case I'll take it - at a reasonable price of course. Thinking of getting some clipons.

I'll take the tires. I assume it is a front and rear? 17"? No huge rush I live in Westport which is east of fall river. PM me

I have the swingarm and rotor/ brake in the mail now but still need an wheel [f/r]axlels rear master cylinder, right rearset and brake petal.
