I've been fixing these things and they are starting to collect around the house. I'm sure Wifey doesn't like them hangin around all over. I have 3 right now and 1 is for sale.
This one I fixed just last night(and played for a couple hours afterward). Its an Xbox 360 Core System with power cables/supply and standard AV cable. no HDD nor controllers. It would be great to get to replace someone's existing system that has recently broke down.
$100
If you have a broken one I might be interested in buying it for $35-$40 bucks at the same time depending on condition and what it is.
PM me if interested

All strippers SHOULD have fake tits!
Yeah I have been fixing them... they are a little time consuming, but I'm getting faster the more I do.

i would take you up on it in a heart beat if it had an hdmi connection
this particular one is the core system which was pre-HDMI.
My two other 360's have HDMI and have used them with component and HDMI. I can't tell the difference other than how I hook them up(I Play 1080i on 32" and 42" LCD). 1080P is only supported through HDMI I believe. My 1080P 42" TV doesn't look any different between 1080i and 1080P. But I'm old. hehe
Anyways, it doesn't have an HDMI port.

by fixing it u referring to the 3 ring of death right? if so its really easy to fix just a pain in the ass to do it. someone should buy the "fixed" ones from the op for cheap since all 360's will eventually get the rings.
So far I have fixed 1,2 and a 3 LED problems. They are virtually just different symptoms coming from the same root cause of "lowest bidder" manufacturing.
Its caused by two main issues... How the heat sinks are mounted(and some other related details), and the tree huggers having made the electronics industry go towards low lead and lead free solder. Lead makes solder connections flexible and durable against heat cycles. Take the lead out and solder joints get brittle and crack as they are cycled.
Yes, I agree that most if not all 360s will fail before a reasonable life expectancy is reached. I expect at least 5 years out of my computers and other electronics. I doubt a single 360 would last 5 years without someone having to tear into it at least once(well, maybe it would if it doesn't get used very much).
Their are 8 360's in my immediate family and friends that own those consoles. 7 out of those 8 failed in less than two years. A couple of them in just a few months after purchase. Are they under warranty? yes, sometimes. It depends on which symptom you get but the root causes remain the same.

This unit is sold.
I think I'll have another one early next week and it will be more complete. It will have a wireless controller, 20GB hard drive, HD Component cable, and a wireless controller.

Do you know anything on fixing/swapping the DVD drives?
The DVD drive in mine broke once, MS fixed it free, now it is out of warranty and I'd suspect it will break again eventually.
I've torn into plenty of computers in my time but was under the impression they had some security features in place and/or made the drives special in such a way as to stop me from replacing it myself.
Maybe it will just get the RROD before the drive fails a 2nd time and then I could perhaps get them to replace the entire unit and get the new DVD drive as a bonus.![]()
put another one up to microsoft being a bunch of idiots that know just enough about building stuff that they can release it to a class1 consumer base...
Hey Ben,
I haven't fixed any DVD drives on the 360's yet. They are set up different from a normal PC DVD drive though. I know that there are at least 3 revisions of DVD drives to them at the moment and when you swap/replace the drive in any particular unit, you have to replace it with one that is of the same revision. So just because you have a spare doesn't mean you can swap it out unfortunately.
Yeah, hope for the RROD and you might get lucky(unlucky?) and get a different unit that will last you a while.
R1, yeah... they seem to make it just good enough so the customer base can find ways to fix it themselves. Grrrr!!!
Anyway, Again, I hope to have at least 1 early next week.

WTF?
I just moved into a new apartment... I hooked up the TV, etc.. this morning.
And the 360 RRODed... what timing considering this thread.
Hopefully they replace the whole damn thing so I get a new DVD drive as well.
Bump!
I just picked up another 360 tonight. This one will have the big 120 GB hard drive. It does NOT have an HDMI port. It should be ready and available soon.
