Listed my 04 SV650 on CL and had some guy in Manchester, NH offer me a 2012 RMZ450 in trade for it. Have not ridden dirt since 04 or 05 so its been a while. Looking for more of a trails and possibly ice bike, not so much racing at this point. Any input on the bike? Anything to pay attention to when i go check it out?

Rmz 450 is a big woods bike, probably great on the ice and def great at a track but a lot of bike for the woods.

how big are you? what's your trail/woods experience?

6' 220lbs... rode dirtbikes back in middle and high school. couple years on a rm80 and cr125 then a few years riding an 02(i think that was the first year they came out) crf450. Its been 6 - 8 years since I've been on one unfortunately. Always open to suggestions for other bikes to look at.

you're not small and have some prior experience... i agree with the others, i'd go for it.
sure it will be a lot of bike for New England trail riding but if it's in good shape, it's prob worth more than your SV. try the RMZ for a while and sell it if you don't like it.
looked up a few quick reviews, seems the suspension might be on the soft side for 200lb+ riders. might work out well in the woods (?) reviews also say it was a little heavier than the competition. thing to keep in mind is that it is an MX bike (19" rear/suspension/maintenance). some like an MX'er in the woods (me, with tweaks) some don't.
as for other bikes to look for, no clue what type of power you like, 2T vs 4T, etc. i'm in the smaller = better camp for woods riding. 2-stroke all the way.

isnt the rmz only a 4 speed?

I vote for the 450. Lots of grunt. Don't have to rev the crap out of it. Power over stuff easily. And you don't have to twist the throttle all the way if the size is a concern. BTW Maine has a awesome trail network and they invite you with open arms to come ride. I found a trail network in the Coos Canyon area thats beautiful and 220 miles of legal hassle free riding with a campground to ride from.

After talking with the guy it became apparent that he is looking for cash to be added... knew it was to good of a deal to be legit. Back to poking around. Offered a guy the bike for a 03 crf450, waiting to see if anyone else offers anything up

At this point I'm just looking for a solid trail bike

A 450 is cumbersome in the woods, but not un rideable.
Personally, if I were buying another woodsy bike, I'd be looking for a 200 smoker with a plate.

Even though I've only ridden it a couple of times and I have nothing to compareit to...I really like my 300. Its like a 2 stroke tractor.
