Anyone planning on doing this J Day in Southwick?
I did a GP event there last fall on a crf150 (I know, fat guy, little bike). It was definitely the wrong bike to be on with the sand and the log extreme section. Kind of fun though.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how bad the conditions would be, but they have a video up from last year. Just looked muddy. The woods section looked like it had nice lines, but there were some pretty sketchy ruts in the sand area.

If I remember correctly that day was an unusually warm (close to 60, give or take) random gift.
I'll might consider it if the snow run doesn't happen for me.

I look a that video and i wonder how a newb like me would do and i think......you wouldnt find my body for a few days after i fall over and get trampled in the mud
hmmmm......
Thats sort of the allure of where jday is today. You on the line against 150 other cats in your same class of various newb to sandbagger levels circling around a 2-3mile loop with 3 other lines of the same size. Sprinkle in some teenage kids that think they're the next dungey and there it is, love it or leave it.

maybe that's it.. so long as i'm around other newbs.... i'm good
hmmmm......
Oh, the C class will be stacked with sandbaggers too, have no fear.
But in theory, yeah, you'd be lined up by ability and age, or ability and displacement, your choice.

I've been woods riding for several years, fairly comfortable on a dirtbike, but never did mx. The only thing that saved me last fall was having road racing experience. I just kept saying to myself "Just hold your line...hold your line" as I was shitting myself the whole time.
I was in C-senior, too, but they run several groups at once with 30 seconds per line, so I was getting lapped by the next Dungy.
It was more stressful than fun...yet...here I am...a couple of months later thinking of doing another one in the cold no less. I'm even trolling cl for a 250 4 stroke.
I'm sick.

That vid looked gnarly. Tough call whether it would be easier on a minibike, or full sizer. Most people would be paddling most of the way, making the little bike easier, but that power sucking sand slurry just eats minis for lunch. I've raced the regular wick in conditions like that twice now. Humbling.
That's why I rode the 150 last fall, Paul. I thought it would be easier, but it felt like more work on it. It was prefect for the woods, but it just didn't have enough on the sand uphills of the mx section.
Also, I did the extreme part. They had a wooden bank ramp that was awesome, made it over the tire section fine, I got over 2 or 3 of the logs before the front wheel got caught between a double log and flipped me. The logs were bigger than the clearance of the bike.
I was exhaust after that. I just ended up taking the Joker route through the woods the rest of the time.

semi OT :
NETRA really needs to up their Sprint Enduro game ... their use of existing trail plus lack of baggers makes the whole day a million times more fun. (for a lesser-than-Dungey type such as myself)
BUT, i'm still down to clown in a few JDays this season, just not right now. staring at a frame with no boingers and half a motor but SOOOON.. .
i like that this thread was started, hope more of yous want to attend some 'races' this season. NESR hare scramble day coming up ¿?
