The MT43 is definitely taller, but I just adapt my style. No big deal, I guess. It rides very smoothly on pavement, and I really like that about it. My 4-stroke really hooks up great, no matter the rear tire choice - so it seems. The front is a different story. I have been having a tough time in tight switch backs, so I bought a stiffer rear spring. We'll see what happens...... soon.

Fatty on the front. MT-16 on the rear. I like it.
Got my 404/403s. They look really nice and the side knobs on the front don't seem crazy long or anything. Since I only occasionally ride rocky stuff, I'm optimistic. Consensus on the KTM board seems to agree that they eventually shed knobs, but that they also have the best all around traction. THe front has been renamed X30 with a 51M designation. Will probably get to try them next week.
rocky mountain has them with a $20 rebate on the set. I might try em' out for shits and giggles.

on this topic, interesting redesign on the Motoz Tractionator...
the nice rim protector they used to have was missing from my latest sample so i asked about it at 930pm EST. received a response almost instantly from Australia, shit the internet is cool. i learned that people bitched when the tire protected the rim TOO MUCH on massive hits causing a tire failure, but NO rim damage. so they redesigned the protective lip to allow for less rim protection but a tire that would survive a special hit like that. weak. i like my rims to stay intact, that little lip was mint, i don't give a shit about a tire.
hoping i can still run 7-8psi without worry. we shall see.

It is interesting to note that there are often different constructions of the same tire. I just noticed that even the Golden Tyre GT216AA Fatty front has a new (desert?) "alternative" version offered.

Paul, yes, you might have been running the H/T? there is an I/T and S/T as well. i ran the I/T last season, it was good but just didn't seem the same as the S/T. neither of them last too long though. the I/T gained nice traction after it was worn by flipping it and sawing sipes across the center knobs. did awesome on the ledge out west.
Greg, you're right, have to pay special attention when ordering a Golden. i forget the coding but it's easy to order something other than you expect.

Tires are swapped. WHy is that always such a fucking hassle? First, I think I have a slightly bent rear axle or something. It is ALWAYS frozen in place and requires much prying to get out. I have worked with an emory cloth to try to lower any high spots, but every time I remove it it takes like 20 minutes.
The ice tires came off much easier that expected, but the new meats were a bitch to get on. THey were just really tight and not pliable. Gah.
Oh well, they are on. Let the good times roll!
Put them in the sun, or by the wood stove this time of year. Also, fuck mounting ice tires every year. Keep an eye on ebay for rims. I now have ice, woods snow, and woods dirt, rim sets. Pretty nice.

I checked their website and Facebook page, no mention of a reopening date yet, just "after spring thaw."
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
too hard to know right now on HVD, unfortunately. they're still closed but we can ask the rangers at the beginning of that week. it's f'in cold today, holy shit.
awesome on Kerry joining! yes, we could split groups, most of the lower stuff is very noob friendly. one group could stay down low and another could do the full loop that uses both sides of the quarry road. she would probably really enjoy the 'oval' way out by the dike. fun, flowing trails that offer more practice than the stuff closer to the parking area.
we could do a warm up loop that shows her, or anyone staying low, what the trails are like and how to get back. the main railroad bed goes straight back if you need to slab it.
