I just ordered a Shoei Hornet "Dual Sport" helmet from Revzilla.

Different league, entirely. ^

This thing IS insanely light.
And yup, scoots, every bit of traffic cone orange. Safety.

I may be in the market for a helmet sooner then later as well! I pulled a chipper today and scratched the shit out of mine in the tunnel![]()

Are these helmets road legal?
Related question: how can I figure out which goggles fit over eyeglasses?

Yes.
Dana, search for "over the glasses goggles".
You're a high end cat, get the ones with the fan. The rest WILL fog.
Edit: yes, the helmet is road legal too.

So why buy a dual sport helmet? I'd use it only on a limited basis on the road - seems like the MX helmets are lighter and more comfortable? I can return the Shoei.

Because regular dirty-bike helmets are horrible on the road. It's like wearing a parachute around your neck.
Glasses friendly goggles limits you to like 5% of the offerings. Add like 200% to the price too. So a true dual sport helmet where I could pop the glasses in and use the screen on the street, then go to goggles sans glasses in the dirt would be more versatile.
But in the end I have a regular dirty helmet and don't wear the glasses. (Look out!)
I can't NOT wear vision correction. After years of experimenting, even though I hate them, contacts are the only way to go offroad.
OTG goggles or the glasses under them fog every time. And scrip shades are too expensive to ruin, not to mention it's impossible to keep them clean when the roost starts flying.
The ds helmets are a compromise. The shield is not designed to be down when in the woods. It's for road use. I do have a couple buddies that use those Velcro strap/posts and flip their goggles around back when on the street, and then lift the shield and use goggles in the woods.

My vision isn't bad enough to require the glasses.. honest, trust me, what could go wrong.
But it sure is better.
Insurance from the last company bought me the prescription shades I have 4 days before I resigned.
They also sell prescription inserts for regular mx googles. 150 bucks for 2 pairs seems more than worth it....that being said, I keep telling myself I'm going to get them and don't. Haha

I'm still debating whether to swap the DS helmet for a motox helmet. I don't see myself riding a lot on the road with it. That Airoh Aviator is one full pound lighter that a Shoei DS or MX.

Unless your doing 60+, you won't notice the wind with a mx helmet (with goggles, duh)
It'll feel like any other helmet, except more air on your face. The lift from the visor is nothing at normal street speeds.

+1. used my TLD Air for supermoto duty (street and track), nice and airy for long rides. def hit 80+ frequently. no issue.
speaking of... my new replacement Air showed up

A Shoei Large fits me well. Do other brands fit about the same? The Arai helmets are too round, the Shoei oval works for me.

you'll have to try them on for fit/comfort but i wear Shoei Medium for street lid, most dirt Mediums fit me well except HJC i needed a Small.

Who sells Suomy? Revzilla doesn't seem to have them. I think I'm going to return the DS helmet for a MotoX one.

I got mine from some online retailer that sells through that auction website.

In HJC and Scorpion (including the Scorpion dirty-bike helmets) I am a large.
In Shoei I am a Medium.
YMMV I suspect.
FWIW: I have found the online size charts to be pretty accurate if you want to measure your own squash with a garment measuring tape.

Verdict: sufficiently cooler than my Scott.
The lack of weight doesn't hurt either.
