    Post Wearing the gear

For those people that spend $6-10,000.00 on a bike and then
think that good leather gear costs too much and is "too hot" in the summer.
Take a good look at this:

    May 7th 2003

Then ask yourself, "How much is my skin worth"?
Put it on the card, barrow the money from the bank, reletives, whatever...
    but, GET IN THE GEAR!!!

    +1

After seeing all of the road-rash pictures I thought the bike would be MUCH worse than it was. He would have def. been dead w/o that helmet.

Yea...bikes slide easily....skin grabs the road and you end up tumbling.
I'd rather be hot than dead any day.

Riding gear can save your skin? No shit?

no kidding huh? im gonna throw my leathers away

i wish people would get a clue. i helped a friend fix his bike yesterday and when done i asked do you have pants to wear? o yeah i got pant to change into jacket gloves and helmet. o cool i said. so then he takes it for a test ride with shorts jacket and helmet the gloves that he didn't wear were work gloves. so i still had my old a* gloves with me and i gave them to him. he gladly accepted and rode away wearing them...still in shorts

I saw a dude last year riding down the road with helmet, leather jacket, decent gloves, nice boots and.......daisy duke cutoff jean shorts. I almost shit my pants laughing.

Yeah but skin is only good for 5 inches of sliding.

Asking yourself this question is either a jab at my ego to boost your arrogant posturing, OR an indication that you really don't see or care about the importance of spreading helpful information to less experienced people.
That's quite alright, either way I understand and you can leave the task up to more mature people.

My compultion however, is that I still see people running around in shorts and
t-shirts, sneakers, no helmets. Retarded? Yes! Lacking in all common sense? You betchya! So, even if one noob sees this, perhaps he'll re-think his position and wear the gear, so it makes it worth spreading this (what seems to us) redundant information. Understand now?

    No need to be so sensative around these guys. Everything that is posted by everyone should either be ;

I am glad all Hyabusa riders take their riding seriuosly.

Saw a post on another forum about a kid (22) who was gonna get a "busa" for his first bike.

If you want to talk about gear try being in the military and being ordered to wear it.

    Wearing the gear

From my non-motor powered biking days I know how much pain is detered by the proper gear. Of course when I got my motorycle I got some riding gear, but I was glovless for a few days. I had ordered gloves online and there was a problem with the shnipping. I got the gloves 2 weeks later, but that was 2 weeks I was wondering how badly it would suck to crash.

New level of dumb I have now seen two sportbike guys riding with an armored jacket and NO helmet. This gets a thumbs up by the Society of Transplant Surgeons... that's why we call them donorcycles

    Wearing the gear

I've seen these pics somewhere else before.

Don't recall if I saw them before or after I took the MSF... but I never thought for a second that when I started to ride, I would not wear the gear.

Even before I wanted to ride, I'd see riders with no helmets, or just in shorts and I would just think to myself, "Don't they want to protect themselves??"

Whenever you want to ride w/o gear - just think of these pictures. If you still want to take the risk... well, it's your skin.

worD. Same goes for seatbelts. You can preach all you want but the operator is ultimately responsible for the aftermath.

good god, those were pretty bad. dont know why its so hard to wear the proper gear for some people. its also not fair to say " o well its their skin or their life" cause its not. when you eat it hard and end up living or dying, it affects anyone who remotely cares for you. so wear gear for yourself and your loved ones.

    Graphic is right!

Not only should you wear the gear, but you've gotta use your head too. I feel I am still very new to this riding thing, so I'm always very cautious when I'm out on the bike -- I hope that never goes away and I never let my gaurd down, because that's when something's going to happen.

right on, gear doesn't make you invincible, or make you a better rider. notice the last pic, whats left of that guy, gear didn't help him.
