I bought this '96 DR back in Nov from the second owner, 7700 miles on it, absolutely box stock, nothing done for mods...! Nothing.
They were both pretty good about oil changes and the like showed me records and all that...
But no other mods, How does this happen..? Anyway...
I got to looking it over, checking bolts and stuff, found a couple that were loose, changed some others then got to work on that yellow and purple paint and flashy decals, off they went.
Added the tail rack, swapped the seat and fork boots, stuck a screen on it, painted the front of the handguards, painted the exhaust, did the Dyno Jet carb kit and modified the air box (opened the top) to suit...
Still need a tank bag, I'll use the Wolfman Enduro. Added the Gerbing's heated liner outlet...
Buffed up all the plastic... Sa-weet..Ready to roll... !
There is still some of the purple, the frame and rear bars, oil cooler guard but I can live with that... actually like it.
Cheers,
Rob

I do not know what the hell the mfr's were thinking back then but I am just a tad more conservative than that.
No worries, decals are gone, that was the worst part. Oh, I tried a product called "Oops" all purpose glue and goo remover... It worked ok and took the stickiness out of the glue on the surface of the tank but it was more work than I like to frig with so I went to acetone right after... sha-wing, glue is gone...
