Just trying to get some folks together for a dual sport outing before the end of the summer. Rideo one or both days. Let's get some consensus on a weekend. Most are good for me except for July 21/22. Camping and all that shit possible if we can work out the details. And maybe even a place for those of us with little kids. or, maybe a weekend w/o the famblies.![]()
What kind of bikes are you talking about? Are you riding just inside of beartown?
dual sport bikes, but that's only two (maybe three) of us. i've never rode Beartown, so people who have some Beartown experience would be great to have along. otherwise, we're just going to tool around on the service roads and get lost on a few singletrack loops.
Beartown is kinda rocky. There is no single track that I am aware of. Airplane Trail, Skypeak and Beebee are pretty intermediate. Some parts of Wildcat and Turkey can be pretty tough with a dual sport, depending what you have. You can't ride directly to the trails from the campground and the ranger is a bit of a d*ck in regard to ORV's. Not sure how kindly he'd take to dual sport bikes.
Coming from the campground, if you go in the ORV parking area to get to Wildcat, take a right onto Wildcat, follow that to the road, cross and connect to Beebee and then follow to SkyPeak. You can cross and catch Turkey to Airplane and follow Airplane to the end, take a left and a ways down you can take a right and loop the rest of SkyPeak then connecting to retrace your steps in the other direction. At that point, if you feel like more challenging terrain, I'd hop on Turkey and follow that through to Wildcat. Wildcat going north from that end is easier than south from the ORV parking lot. If you really want a challenge, take a left on Wildcat from the ORV parking area. The boulder is very easy to get up, keep momentum. It will freak you out the first time you see it though. Enjoy. - Paige
There is no singletrack at Beartown S.F. It's all wide-assed quad-compatible shit. There're trail maps online and at the ranger station. It's very easy to follow.

If riding Beartown, you could also head out the north end of the forest and hit rt. 102. Head in to Lee and then into October SF. I think it might be about 10 miles on the pavement , its been a long time since I did that ride.. I would be interested in riding one of the days. If you are riding anything bigger than a DR650 some of the trails are tough in both State forests.
I'm up for it, but I'll be taking the WR450 in any of the state forests.![]()
I'm up for Beartown, but I'm off-road only. I think I'll bring the KDX, as I'm a little scared of my new bike for the rocks! Also, a tank of gas only lasts an hour and a half. First Mod will be a bigger tank, next will be getting the motor back to STOCK!
I'm looking at later August weekends. Any suggestions?
I ride a little Yami 225, so no 24" log jumping for me. But, I'll watch the rest of you to see how you do it;-)
Hmmm, No logs is a tall order. Last time we did wildcat to the left, there was a 24 inch plus log right before the boulder! That was 2 years ago though. And Paige, it may be easy when dry, but I beg to differ when it's got snot running down the face!![]()
we need a n00b ride at pittsfield state forest

Let me know when and where. Pittsfield is really nice to ride and you can do a 40 to 50 mile loop up there. Its way bigger then Beartown. I ride a DR350s Its set up for the dirt would like to stay off pavement if I could.
August 18 & 19 looks good on my calendar.

18 & 19 look good here... only thing I have on the calendar is AMA Supermoto at Mototown the 18th.

I believe the Supermoto venue is now Stafford Springs.
And, the date is the following weekend?
New England Supermoto Classic

i am up for this ride too.... it will be my first ride of the season by the looks of it.
The 19th at Beartown is good for me. Just tell me a time to meet and at which parking lot or the campground.
I'm thinking I'll be in...
My WR450 electrical woes are close to being solved.
Actually, it's only the turn signals I can't get working, so even if they aren't I can still put the rest together and ride.
So are you talking the 18th in pitsfield at 10am?
