was thinking about trying an enduro. NETRA is doing one not too far from my house this weekend. i know its a timed event with early/late penalties but i dont care where i finish so bring on the penalties.
my question is, will i survive without a route sheet? in other words, is the route well marked usually? i didnt have one for the TR during the classic and i did just fine. i dont have an odometer anyway so im not quite sure how well a route sheet would help anyways.
oh, and numbers...do they assign numbers like LRRS or do i get to pick my own?

When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

NETRA will assign you a number. From what I recall it will be somewhere between 4000 and 4999 for the class you would likely wind up in. Hit up flippedR6 on here as he has done some NETRA events last year and might have some insight.
You can survive without a route sheet.
Bring a watch. That'll help. Which event and which set of rules is it (Ama, brand x)?
Enduros don't use race numbers. They'll give you an event number, which is your minute and spot designation.
I.e. 23c
That means you go when the card flips 23 and you're supposed to be the 3rd bike from the left, riders left.

Ok, so it's restart format, zero actual timekeeping.
Go like stink when your number flips. You'll be late out of the section...
I'm pretty sure with restart they leave enough time between tests to get to the next start on the same minute, unless you hour out (which is a total of 60 minutes dropped from your original minute)
Enduro timekeeping always reads like a clusterfuck. Don't bother trying to digest it, just go wing it. Go as fast as you can in the woods. Take it easy on the transfer sections, and be efficient at gas. (Refuel, top off your camelback, and eat something quick, then get to the next start...don't drop points here because you dilly-dally'd)

A route sheet will help even if it's only for reference when you get to the break sections. Sometimes the courses aren't arrowed as well as you may hope, and if you get turned around it can get you back on track. Also, drink up and carry a lot of water in the summer. I ran out twice and it killed me. I usually carry some extra goodies, like another pair of goggles and gloves, a simple tool kit, and a few pieces of spare hardware, along with a spare shifter, because breaking a shifter ended a race for me once. Tape your hands if you get blisters too. Hopefully you will have a shortened C course.
I'm pretty excited to hear how this goes on Sunday night or Monday morning.
Enduros are my race of choice. It's just you out there against the trail and the clock. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing, just ride the ride as best you can.

Jeesh, this sounds really really fun. And you're refueling, eating, etc... how long of an event is it?

There sign up process is a pain when i did it. After you sign up for NETRA no one emailed or got in contact in anyway letting you know after that you need to email this other person to request a race number. They also switched transponders this year but that won't effect you. Get there early to finish up what you need before the race. I did Harescrambles not Enduros because my dirty bike isn't street registered.

There are no transponders in enduros.
This particular event doesn't even require a street plate.

Im kind of glad it died 2 miles from my house and not 10 miles into the woods.

This sounds insanely fun.. wondering how my DR350 would handle it.
Sucks about the bike issues.
