For MX and no bark busters, I don't think you need folding levers. For trails and no bark busters, I think you do need folding levers.
I have ASV levers on the KTM with big, buck-off bark busters and they're very nice. For the Honda, I run cheap plastic hand guards and stock levers. I do carry a spare set of OEM Honda levers in my toolbox, they're only $10 or so each for genuine parts.
KTM is 100% woods/trails and Honda is 100% MX.
