I swear, if I so much as look at my Yam it clogs the pilot jet. It's come down to cleaning it before every ride, or just living with a high idle setting... so far high idle is winning.
Is this a trait of the old Mikuni VM running premix or just commentary on the crap gas we get nowadays?
My wifes family all has yamaha grizzlies, and they get cloged alllll the time from the bad gas. I think there was actually a needle made from a different material yamaha released. this was for wheelers, but may be the same for you. With 5 different wheelers, it was like at least one was clogged up each week.

I know that it's not a 2-stroke, but the Ninjette used to do that (along with idling like crap). Turns out that the pilot screw didn't have enough turns out (ha ha).
I turned it all of the way in the first time I cleaned the carbs, but forgot to reset it afterwards. 2.5 turns out, happy bike.

how long are you not running the bike?
use startron additive....
DRZ used to do that I replaced pilot jet with 2 sizes bigger
SUDCO
Put on good fuel filter ACE HARDWARE
Never did it again, more power , faster starting
F*n the ECO-Taliban... priceless
Heh, I just downsized the pilot as it's stupid fat on bottom. Now it's lean when it gets there due to a clogged pilot buuuuut.... screw it I'm rigging EFI for it.
Use a fuel filter with a brass element inside and switch to a different gas station.
I had to use a blue plastic line similar to Tygon and I haven't had any issues and I don't believe it's softened at all. I think mine is a Moose brand tubing intended for the gas cap vent.
another StarTron user here... hope you get it sorted.
