Is anyone set up for ice riding this season? Here in RI, it’s the best ice season we’ve had in years, and it looks like it will continue.
My nephew and I set up an ice track on one of our ponds and have ridden ice for the last 7 weekends in a row. With the rain yesterday, the water levels have come up quite a bit but to finally add a fresh layer of ice once it freezes again.
This weekend, we can likely host a small crew of riders if anyone is interested, both bikes and quads are welcome. Our track is about 3/4 mile long, though there is plenty of room to expand if needed.
The pond is about 3/4 of a mile from my house and you’ll need 4x4 to get down the logging road to the parking area… that is assuming you wouldn’t want to ride your ice studs from the house to the pond.
Let me know if interested.

Man, I'd love to do this if my collarbone weren't broken![]()
I’d love to do this if my bike were ready and I had studded tires
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
FAHK me! I haven't done it in a couple years now. That was some good times, no doubt!
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Buddy of mine and some others got chased out of Wordens pond a couple weeks ago by DEM. Guess they were checking ice fisherman’s licenses and told them no bikes. Ended up in Pomfret instead. Some day I’ll quit being a baby and go try out the ice.

RI has some funny laws with water, but I recall from years ago and trying to ice ride locally on public accessed ponds/lakes/East Greenwich cove, that you need a boat registration for your bike.
This pond is private and I own 80% of it, so no plate or registration required.

I’m so jealous. Bike and tires ready to go but working this weekend! Damn
Great to see you guys and good times for sure. Usually the water is 12” higher and the cut through sections are a bit wider, it’s just an added challenge.. haha
While we were on that pond, the lower pond was being drained (I didn’t know they were going to drain it) and made for some interesting ice the next day. A first for us, was having banked corners, and ice jumps. We rode for a couple hours Sunday morning on the lower pond until it warmed up and got slushy.

ice racing is roaring this year, and the Alton Bay Seaport/Iceport has had a record # of landings with plenty more season to go

Some say... there are even banked tracks... that are flat.
And that some ROAD courses... aren't actually ROADS... at all.
All we know is... HE'S CALLED THE STIG!
