Why not spend $10 and put a cheapie bike speedo/odo on instead of that spendy thing?

Tusk does have that, which may be a cheaper route. Would still need a headlight, headlight switch for hi/low, and reg/rec from the KTM.
Did more digging today, I have the "2k3" stator which is apparently the one that can handle a headlight.
No chance of it ever passing inspection in MA though. Would still need DOT gnawbees and a chain guard. Plus no title, so it would have to go VT and stay VT.

If you aren’t going to expect it to pass inspection, just get a trailtech headlight or whatever, and then a sicass brake/tail kit, and it’ll be on when the bike is running, and that’s it.

So all in to get the thing with directionals, brake lights, mirror, horn and headlight, probably be about $300. That's not too bad in the grand scheme of things.

More research:
200XC has no "wiring harness" (part 54811075100).
The 200XCW has the "wiring harness" and voltage regulator.
Same stator, CDI, etc.
Voltage regulator is about $58 for the KTM OEM (Generic exact replacement, Amazon, $27.95), wiring harness is $28.
If I do both of those, I'll be able to run any lighting kit designed for the XCW.

I guess you really should have held out for an XC-W. I didn't realize there were this many deltas between.
The KTM instrument gauge kit is pretty choice. I know how to use about 10% of it. But you can do all that x-miles to mark jazz and stuff. Although you apparently cannot reset the hour meter after a rebuild.
I'll go one of the TrailTech gauges. It's got all the stuff I could hope for. Besides, without the KTM wiring/speedo pickup/etc, I can't run the stock KTM one.
There are some significant differences in the XC to XCW when it comes to wiring/electrical. Hoping for my needs, the harness and regulator will get me to where I need to be.

your dads in NH, why not just register it to him? you wont need the speedo, blinkers or half the other shit you posted. just headlight, tail light, brakelight. i cheat a little on the chain guard and horn as i just inspect my own bike.

yeah if the price comes down enough, sure...but remember what 99% of peeps say about smoking on the street. It's a novelty, but it kinda sucks.

My plate is there to connect trails and not get hassled. My 200 has to be the worst dual sport I've ever ridden. The 5xx lbs 'strom is better there.
Also, I haven’t advocated for a by reg, I don’t know why people are putting words in my mouth. It’s a ktm, a mass title should be easy.

To be clear:
I'm not trying to make this into a nice dual sport. I'm trying to get it so I can actually ride the fucking thing. Closest legal place is in NH 40 minutes away now, for some glorified fire roads. Closest legal real trails are 1.5 hours away.
Maybe I should just pick up a DR350 or some shit and rip that around all the unmaintained roads in my town.

Ahhhh, now it’s coming together for me... if you can still do it by mail, then give that a go. If you must bring the bike up for inspection prior, THEN you’re looking at having to get a full kit.
Or sell it, and replace it with something with paperwork, and then just put a plate on it.
Or keep it for the woods, and pick up a dual sport or 4, of different degrees of woods/street mix.

3 acres is enough to have some fun on. Not tapping out 4th gear fun, but fun. Use your glorified lawn mower to make a rock garden, have some log crossings, perimeter trail can give you at least 1 or 2 decent straights, and a bunch of tight interconnecting loops. Biggest obstacle in getting to ride for dad-types is the amount of time it takes to load up, go somewhere and do it. If I couldn't gear up and ride straight out of my barn I probably wouldn't ride enough to justify keeping my bike. I'm not telling you anything you don't know already, am I?

No, not saying anything new. I have quite an assortment of terrain to make some tight technical and varied runs around my property, but it's the time required to make the trails that's killin me.
In all reality, I shouldn't of bought a bike. Just not enough time given all the projects I have going on and being a dad.
