Anyone interested in doing a turkey run
Theres one coming on 11/7 in ct.
Like to get a good ride in soon
hmmmm......
dang... 500 miles round trip...
Pending weather, I think I'm in... I can get a hotel for Saturday for like $100. Gonna be a long Sunday night coming back home though.
What's a turkey run like?
I have been riding NETRA Turkey Runs for over 45 years. NETRA Turkey Runs are *non-competitive* trail rides. They are generally from 65 to 110 miles long. The event flyers will generally say whether gas stations are on route, or if you have to bring your own gas can to put on a gas truck (which the organizer will drive to a spot on the route). It is *highly recommended* that you have a route sheet holder (RSH) - as you will be provided with a route sheet that will have mileage (in tenths of a mile) on the left side, and directions ("R on Tar", "L on WR" - woods road, etc.). Bring scissors and scotch tape. You will need the scissors to cut the route sheet page into strips, and the scotch tape is needed to tape the strips together to load onto your RSH. (I also run a continuous strip of scotch tape down the back, to prevent it from ripping in case it gets wet)
Some riders will be very fast - move over for them quickly. Others will struggle. I usually try to stop to help them.
There may be "Hero Sections" - Beware! Some of them can be very difficult - especially if you are not accustomed to such long mileage.
FYI - I have seen some riders attempt to follow other riders, or the tracks of others, and get lost. Some organizers use the bright orange NETRA arrows and arrow generously - but some arrow sparingly and it can be very difficult to know where the turns are if you do not have an odometer and a route sheet.
Think the trails are trashed from the storm?
I’m in western ct and we didn’t get much of the storm.
Weather says 53 degrees and partly cloudy for Sunday.....
My bar risers and pegs come in Thursday...
Not gonna make it either
Sounds like a dual sport ride for the east coast
It will take a lot of preparation, and a lot of money but life is short and this will be one of your best memories as long as you don’t get hurt. Do it.
