I think for a trackday or two, you'll have some fun with it. The topic about racing a 250 2-smoker has come up a bunch of times and everyone seemed to agree it was not a great bike/idea to use for racing.
The good thing about setting that bike up as a motard, all the full size Yamaha MX bikes from 1998-2007 have the same wheels, and 2008 just has different spacers. So you can always upgrade to a 450 thumper and not have to purchase wheels/brakes again

I wanted to race a 250 'tard and was talked out of it. Can't really remember the reasons, but they were plentiful & convinced me. A search might find the thread?

ya this is a great point. Last year I wanted to try to race my kx250 just to get up there and get on the track without buying a whole bike but iwanted to find a front brake setup and wheels that would fit a kx450f or something so I didn't waste my time money. If you feel like you'll get hooked then that is the route to take, find the wheels and then down the line find a 450 or somethin

Re: Picking up a new toy today

I dunno, i don't see me buying a 450 anytime soon....although that one for sale on here for 1800 is pretty damn tempting.

Heres some more pics from today.

New plastics, some cleaning, and some touching up will have this thing looking mint to sell.

Sadly, I just had to order a new axle carrier+bearings for my quad, and it also needs a set of rear break pads and front tires.....

Cool man, yeah, it runs unbeleivable too.

I think im gonna ride it for a couple months, then sell it, cause i really should be paying off my bike, not buying more toys, and this would put a good chunk into it. Then next summer i'll buy another, haha.

Seth could probably confirm this... but what I do is, with me on it -

1.5" to 2.5" total play (chain taught pushing down to chain taught lifting up). lean towards more if you plan on hitting any sweet jumps

No jumps for me. At least not yet. Just the rocks/logs i pop over. The pre-load on this thing is nuts, a little blip of the throttle over one, and im soaring, its awesome.

God, I dunno how i'm gonna sell this thing, haha.

I might just put it up for a ridiculous price for like 2500 and sit on it until i get a buyer however long that might take.

at 2500, there wont be a huge line to see it, BUT IT IS VERY CLEAN... and it is doable. Just sell it before September, otherwise the value will drop $500 instantly until April.

    Note i said ridiculous.

This is what I plan on doing.....buying a spare set of plastics. Put them on, take pics, post on craigslist for 2500. Take plastics off, ride the crap out of it. I will get plenty of calls/emails saying 2500 is way to much, and plenty of offers of 1000, and plenty of people trying to trade things like stock maxima wheels for the thing.

But, I will also get offers of like 1500-2000. And, if lucky, i will get teh excited 16 year old with his dad that wants to buy teh first bike he sees, and he convinces his dad to do so. That was me when i was 14 looking at quads. Went to look at like a 97 300ex that was beat to shit that the guy wanted 3 grand for. Luckily my dad isn't dumb and said no way, but i sure as hell wanted that quad.

If i sell this for 1100 I make money

    Lol, exactly.

I don't want a fast sale, I want to ride, but if someone is going to pay 2500, i sure as hell will. That will pretty much pay off my bike.

Got a lot of seat time on the bike today, I dunno if I can sell it, its too much fun, lol. Rode for 3-4 hours....which is about as long as the thing can go on 1 tank of gas.

Heres some pics, don't mind the crappiness of them, they're with my point and shoot.
